It has almost been two months since classes started so I finally decided to attend one of these workshops before it was too late. I looked at the workshop calendar and just looked for the closest one which is why i decided on attending this one. I should have read the title more carefully though because all that it was about was just that, impression management. It was a two hour long slideshow presentation about how to make a good frist impression. The lady, whos name i forgot, talked about the various different ways of staying proffesional, from what to wear to an interview, to what we post on the internet, and even to what our voicemails should sound like. I learned a new term, “the grandma test” which is basically a type of test used on a social networking site or even a voicemail message to see whether it is appropriate enough for even your grandmother to see. Everything else was just common knowledge that i’m pretty sure most people have heard at least once in their life by now. The lady was a good public speaker though so at least i didn’t fall asleep like others did. I even thought she looked like Tina Fey. As for coming out of my comfort zone, there came a point where we practiced sitting appropriately as if we were being interviewed. This meant that i had to sit up, and have my legs close together which is pretty uncomfortable for me.
