The career exploration workshop that i attended on 10/8/09 was the “Create Your Own Major” workshop hosted by the Weissman School. The workshop gave an insight to the requirements of how to get into the Weissman School and how one can create a major of their own if they arent satisfied with the majors at Baruch. The workshop explained that one could put two different studies together such as this one girl who put business management and African studies together, but only after you write a thesis on why this would help you. I decided to attend this workshop because i wanted to enter the weissman school with my psychology major. It took me out of my comfort zone becausei wanted to do business at first but then found out about the sciencemajors and wanted to do them instead. I would recommend this workshop to another student because that way they have choices. I thought this school was all business but now i found out that i want to do psychology. I learned about how to get into the weissman school and not to worry about grades as long as we have the drive for our major. What really surprised me was that if one creates their own major, they get more recognition in the world due to the uniqueness of their situation.
The work shop i attended was Create Your Own Major on December 3, 2009 in the VC building room 2-190. This workshop really opened up my eyes to the fact that we dont have to be stuck in just following the guidelines of the three basic majors offered at Baruch. By creating out own major we would actually be showing creativity and our ability to go our path, showing companies we are not afraid of taking risks. this was a very good learning experience because i realized that i could mix everything that i am good at to create a major that is especially suited for me and something i would enjoy studying and pursuing in years to come, and i would not be forced to take classes that i dont want. it was very helpful because we had student speakers who shared their advice and experience with us and all of them said that we must work hard to acheive what we want. this was a very informative workshop and i would recommend it to anyone who is either unsure or have something outside of the normal in mind when it comes to what they want to major in.
