I attended the 20th Anniversery of the Fall of the Berlin Wall. Basically, this workshop was to raise awareness of the fall of the Berlin Wall if you were not aware of its happening 20 years ago. The Berlin Wall was a wall of great fortitude. It walled out a single country dividing it into two countries. The Berlin Wall was placed in Berlin, Germany. It’s main purpose was to divide West Berlin and East Berlin because East Berlin was under Soviet influence. In this workshop, we watched a documentary of this wall of great fortitude. It took me out of my comfort zone because the only wall of great fortitude I know of is the Great Wall of China. Walls are a serious subject in history and is deserving of being its own subject.

For this workshop I did not attend a workshop at Baruch college. I got permission to fulfill this workshop by volunteering at a local elementary school. When volunteering I basically assisted the teachers in the class room and tutored the students after class. Doing this brought me out of my comfort zone because I don’t like kids much because they get annoying really quick and I don’t have much patience. In the end it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, the students that I tutored were calm and listened to what I said.

Colouring up your Futture: Alfonzo Qui
    thursday November 12, 09

The purpose of the workshop was to have Formorer Queens council man ALfonzo Qui speak about being succesfful in your career. in his case being an openly gay man in politics. i cant remember where in Queens he was council member for. Alfonzo acctually ended up teling us about where he got his start, and the different jobs he has held sinse then. I selcted this work because i thought it would seem interesting. The tile and the description was enough. Well i wasnt sure what to expect, when i went in except to hear someone talk about being in politics and being openly gay for 1 hour nd then some.. But thats not what we got. he told us his career line, and it was acctually interesting. what did i learn from this workshop? I learned what the reason was for that massive blackout a few years ago. It may have been because of a cow in Ohio.

20th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall

The workshop’s goal was to look back at the importance of the fall of the Berlin wall 20 years ago. A documentary video was shown at the start showing German reactions to the fall of the wall. Then people who were in Berlin in 1989 talked about several significant factors of the historical event, including products from both the west and the east. I selected this workshop because it was one of the last community workshops and this one sounded pretty interesting. I guess it didnt really take me out of my comfort zone since I knew enough about the fall of the berlin wall to keep up with what the speakers were saying. The workshop met my expectations since I was only expecting to hear some reactions about the wall falling and I cant recommend it because it was offered only once but I would if the student knows anything or is faintly interested in the subject. I learned some new perspectives from both sides of the event.

20th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall

This workshop showed a documentary on the celebration of the Fall of the Berlin Wall. The documentary was produced by Robert E. Frye, titled “Freedom Without Walls.” It was about the various views on how the Germans felt about the fall of the wall. It aspired to inform students of the sentiments felt by the citizens of Germany at the time of the fall on November 9th, 1989. I chose this particular workshop because i needed to fill in my requirement. I really didn’t have many choices but I’m glad i attended this one because it really informed me of how revolutionary and significant this event was for many Germans. Seeing it from their perspective was what make the workshop intriguing. This workshop exceeded my expectations because it really made me aware of how significant an event in history was resolved without war and how important it is to celebrate it. I recommend this workshop because its will open your eyes to a new channel of perspectives.

    Anon Walk for breast cancer
I went to this event on October 11, from 9:00 to 12:00. The walk itself was going on in different locations throughout Manhattan, but our station, the place where we were supposed to cheer, was on 6th Avenue and 43rd Street. As the walkers were passing by, all wearing something pink, we had to cheer and encourage them in walking. We also met another group of volunteers who we wearing pink hats and carrying pink pom poms. This event took me out of my comfort zone because I never before volunteered at breast cancer walks, or any other walks. To say honestly, I expected the walk to be much bigger and I expected to see more people walking and cheering.

I attended the Avon walk for Breast Cancer, on October 11th, at Bryant Park. There was a lot to do and see. As a group, we mainly stood in our cheering sections to cheer on the the countless number of walkers. The workshop lasted for about 2 hours. I had never been to a walk or cheered for walkers before, so it is in this aspect that the workshop took me out of my comfort zone.

    Avon Walk for Breast Cancer
    Community-Global Awareness
    October 11, 2009 9:30 am-12:00 pm
This event was to get students involve in supporting people with breast cancer. We meet up at Bryant Park. There was a bunch of real volunteers with Avon walk t-shirt. They had something pink on and one woman had a shiny pink wig on. They had pink pom-poms and shakers. They cheered for everyone who was wearing pink and walking. I selected this because I never went on any walks to support a cause. This was outside my comfort zone because I never cheered on a sideline for anyone. This workshop failed to meet my exceptions because it was on the sidewalk and not closed off streets. I recommend this to anyone who wants to support events such as this one.
