This workship also brought up many issues and it was also a waste of time. In the end, we didnt even get to view the movie. Apparently, the moderators didnt know how to hook the projector up to the computer to watch the film. I was thinking ” how hard can it be?” Other than that, this workshop was a failure at what it was trying to do, even though they still signed our books because of the effort and time we took to do this workshop that never launched, so it wasn’t totally a waste of time. Since I hate my time being wasted, I went home and did some research on the movie we were supposed to watch, My Beautiful Laundrette. When I started reading on the movie, I slowly realized why they made this movie for us to watch to raise global and community awareness. I found some bits and pieces of scenes from the movie, but I had no luck finding the whole thing. Anyway, the film is about the son of Pakistani journalist who lives in London, but dreads it because of its politics. Then the son goes on to open up a laundrette, which becomes very successful and prosperous. However, the character is constantly getting foiled by racism and extremist white people. This is showing the hardships of living in a community thats racist towards minorities. The movie also raises awareness not only in race and culture, but also in sexuality. In the movie, there’s a hint of homosexuality of the protagonist and his friend. And this shows that it doesnt matter what you are or who you are, because we are all human and should be treated the same. I wish I could’ve seen the whole movie, as i know it would be a different experience and understanding rather than just reading about it.
