Interviews

Last Thursday there was a Basics to Interviews workshop, held by the STARR Career Development Center. I decided to attend this workshop because the interviews I have been to have all been relaxed and informal in my opinion and they felt more like casual conversation. So I did not feel prepared for a full-blown, serious interview that would occur in the future. Honestly I did not expect to learn much from the workshop, as I thought it would stress pointers that were common sense if you think about them, but there was alot of info I learned that I can fully use in the future. For example, the speaker stressed how important it was to think about your demeanor, and change it according to the ones interviewing you. She also stated how important it was to do some research about the company/job you are applying for to show that you care enough to want to join them. I would have never thought to do this before. One last thing that I thought was very useful was the point to ask questions after the interview. Usually when the interviewer asks if I have any questions, I always say no because I never thought it was an important part of the interview or that it actually mattered.
