I attended the workshop on using the databases available to students at Baruch and found it to be fairly useful. The databases are included in our tuition and fees, so it would be good to take advantage of them for any research we may need for our classes. However, I found much of the information included in the workshop, such as how to make a search, to be redundant because it is so commonplace and straightforward. The speaker did not need to go into the details of exactly how to use the search bar or what to type into it. Almost everyone, especially young college students, should be able to use a simple search engine without a step-by-step tutorial. We would have save a lot of time if we skip over all that stuff.

academic advisment
the academic advisment work shop yesterday (10-13-09) was a workshop where we were handed a small card listing like 20 different stations for us to visit and ask any questions we had. we were directed to spend time at at least 10 stations. i found this as a really creative way to explore our possibilities, provided we can work at our own pace. im certain im not the only one who appreciated this workshop for my peers that i have spoken to also said they were happy they went. im glad i got to take part in these workshops in my freshman year at bartuch college and im looking forward to referring to many of baruch colleges (extra) offers
thanks

art gallery tour
i dont remember the name of the dr who showed us around the art gallery but she was definitly ecstatic in seeing us this past week “this is far more than the amount of people that usually come in here for previous tours” this work shop was one i especially appreciated considering my love for art. i admire other peoples art (in this care photography) and i love analyzing what the artist was aiming for. very nice job by the department in their selection of art

student life
one of the first work shops i went to was the student life workshop. great workshop for feeling at home in baruch. i spent time from the workshop in the student life office as well on the second floor. (we also got free highlighters that was real cool) one of the things i found really cool was that we get 100 dollars worth of free printing 😉 payed for by the student life department at baruch college.

ad hoc creating your own major
i went to the ad hoc creating you own major a i think it was two weeks ago in room 2- 190 in this work shop we discussed the ability to create a major with three parts. for example there was a representative there who created a major in accounting, communication, and psychology and i was really amazed because I’m definitely considering looking into this. well worth it.

Student Services Fair
For this workshop, I attended the annual Student Services Fair. This has probably been the most benificial of all the workshops so far. All of the schools services were accounted for there. I stopped by the SACC table to get info on how the tutoring works. They made it clear to me that I can walk in and ask my question to the next free student tutor which I thought is extremely helpful if you only have a few short questions. I also stopped by the Bursar’s Office booth to ask a question about a small grant I received. The man explained to me exactly how to recive the money as soon as possible. The whole fair gave me insight to what Baruch has to offer. I just hope I win the raffle! Dylan Klein
Club Fair
On September the 24th I attended the Baruch club fair to see if there were any special groups with whom I can share certain interests in. It was definately a fun time as there was a DJ and people dancing, as well as some of the clubs offering food and drinks as a way of attracting people. I signed up for many of the clubs that I found interesting and I plan on becoming close with the people i meet there for my time at Baruch.
Club Fair
I attend the club fair with mild interest in a few select clubs initially, but when I realized how many unique clubs there were I was suddenly interested in them all. Originally I planned on joining clubs next semester and only clubs that were pertaining to my interest in the Japanese culture. I’d like to learn about it more because I do plan on taking a Japanese language course here at Baruch, but also through clubs such as the Ninpou Club. Although now that I know about all of the 170+ clubs at this school I will try to attend general interest meetings until I can finally find on that fits into my schedule and my interests.
freshman reception. (9/17/09)
the freshman reception was great. along with enjoying refresments and listening to music i got to meet other freshman. i also got help thru deciding what majors or miners i should pick, and what courses i can take next semester among other helpful things

Club Fair
I attended the Baruch College Club Fair on September 24th. It was here where I was able to see what Baruch had to offer in terms of clubs, wheither they be sports clubs, clubs for organizational purposes and many more. I learned there are about 170 clubs Baruch has which basicly means that there is at least on club for everyone. At the fair I narrowed down my choices to clubs I would want to attend in the near future like the archery club. Unfortunatly with my band practice schedule I wouldn’t be able to fit in to a club do to time reasons. I do hope in the future I can arrange time to join or al least go to a meeting to see if a particular club is for me.
