Blood Drive

I signed up for and attended the blood drive at Baruch. There were surprisingly many people there. It was my first blood drive and was a different experience for me. There were seats for waiting, filling out forms, and in cubicles. There was also a huge table with snacks.

It was finally my turn and I thought my blood would be taken immediately but instead, my finger was pricked. The doctor put the blood droplets onto a strip and had me wait for a minute or two. I was finally turned away because I didn’t have enough iron. );

Club Fair

I attended the club fair in the gym. The whole gym was filled with tables and stands that represented different clubs and organizations. There was a mini-stage in the back and a huge crowd surrounding it so I couldn’t see what was going on.

I decided to attend this event because I was interested in branching out and meeting new people (I’ve heard a club was the best way to do this). I had a good time and saw my friend at the TEAS stand. I also signed up for many newsletters that flood my inbox by the dozen.

SACC: Everything You Need to Know

I went into this workshop without too much confidence, as I really didn’t know what to expect. It turned out to be a workshop that stressed how important math classes were to graduating at Baruch, and it supplied study tips as well. I was glad to find out about this section of the school dedicated to helping students in succeeding at classes/finding your  suited major. Alot was focused on math classes, and many useful resources were given. Luckily I have a good math professor, so I did not really need much of what was taught, but it was a short workshop so I absorbed what was taught.

Interviews

Last Thursday there was a Basics to Interviews workshop, held by the STARR Career Development Center. I decided to attend this workshop because the interviews I have been to have all been relaxed and informal in my opinion and they felt more like casual conversation. So I did not feel prepared for a full-blown, serious interview that would occur in the future. Honestly I did not expect to learn much from the workshop, as I thought it would stress pointers that were common sense if you think about them, but there was alot of info I learned that I can fully use in the future. For example, the speaker stressed how important it was to think about your demeanor, and change it according to the ones interviewing you. She also stated how important it was to do some research about the company/job you are applying for to show that you care enough to want to join them. I would have never thought to do this before. One last thing that I thought was very useful was the point to ask questions after the interview. Usually when the interviewer asks if I have any questions, I always say no because I never thought it was an important part of the interview or that it actually mattered.

Personal Enrichment

i went to a personal enrichment workshop where they talked about what to do when you have a conflict with a person in Baruch. i didnt find it personally helpful since hey suggest that you talk to a advisor who sets up a meeting with the person you have a conflict with. when its easier to just talk to the person directly
