A Doll’s House

On November 4th, 2009 I went with my english class to see Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll House.  Originally i didnt know what to expect when they said it would be a staged reading of the play but it turned out to be pretty good althought the actors/actresses were reading while “acting.”  The play was about a relationship between a woman and her husband and the lies they shared between them.  This was my first play seen at baruch but because i enjoyed it so much i do believe i will go to see many more.

A Doll House (play) Jeffrey Cheung

I attended the staged reading of A Doll House with my English class in the school theater. The actors did a very good job in conveying the emotions of story without any props.  Staged readings are surprisingly interesting because the audience must rely on their imaginations to fill in for the missing props.  The room next to the theater with the sofas seems like a really comfortable place to hang out or sleep.

Freshman Reception

This post is a tad late, as honestly I forgot that I had even attended this workshop. On 9/17 hundreds? of students were PACKED because many students were under the impression that he workshop was mandatory. Because of this, the workshop was very hectic and disorganized and the administrators tried to handle it the best they can. In result , a brief outline was given about where important offices were located, where to seek help for future career planning, and advisement on tracking my academic career/choosing classes. This wasn’t the best workshop, but at least refreshments were served!

Arts at Baruch: A Doll’s House

In a change of pace, our English class attended a staged reading of a Doll’s House written by Henrik Ibsen. First, as I was heading down the paths that lead to the Engelman Recital Hall (which I did not even realize existed), I was awed by the tree-light decorations on the walkways as they were very pretty. This made me realize even more how pleasingly aesthetic Baruch is. Anyway, the reading of the play itself was very enjoyable. Because it was only a staged reading, there was no “set, props, acting, stage direction”. It was my first time attending a production of a play in this fashion, but I was pleasantly surprised as the readers read the lines with passion and a believability despite not having much to work with. The hall itself was comfortable and spacey, and I hope more events are held here.

A Doll’s House

My English class attended the reading of Henrik Ibsen’s “A Doll’s House” last Wednesday as a intro to our next topic we will be discussing in class.  I have already read the play before hand so I was curious to see it read out the way it was meant to.  Going in to the performance, the producer told us a character named Dr. Rank was cut from the play.  I was interested how seamless the play moved along without this character in it.  Now because it was a reading of the play, it wasn’t acted out to over dramatic, but the characters played accurate roles.  Overall, I felt that it was a great change of pace to see a play instead of just reading a book in class and after seein the play in it entirety, I have a better understanding for it.

Club Fair

A while back, I attended the club fair not only to find out more about the clubs Baruch has to offer, but for the free food that I heard would be available. I liked how towards the back there was almost a full fledge party going on, with too-loud music and random yellings over the microphone as well. This made the event more lively, when you are walking from stall to stall checking out the different clubs. I was impressed by Mac’s offering of a free bag, but disappointed I couldn’t get one. I got candy though! Overall the fair was very informative and fun to attend as well.

Nov 6, Communicating your way to the top Jeffrey Cheung

I attended the workshop on communication and found it interesting.  The speaker told us about the importance of communication skills and the resources available at Baruch to help improve them.  Although we already covered this in freshman seminar, Baruch provides mock job interviews and resume reviews to help us prepare for the real thing.  The speaker also gave some tips on what classes to register for next term and recommended taking a communications class with Professor Garvey.

The Freshmen Reception Workshop

The freshmen reception workshop was the second workshop after library tour. After getting a letter, which is about the workshop, i went to the freshmen reception workshop. Most freshmen participated so students were divided into some seperated groups. I went to a lecture room. It was really short meeting, which was really good for me.
