Surviving data bases/ library

I learned alot at this academic enrichment workshop. One thing I learned was that I can get different kinds of results in a search by using different words even of the same meaning. For example instead of searching for “steroids” I can type in ” performance enhancers” and I should get more informative articles. Instead of searching “sports” type in “athletics” etc.

Great workshop. Was only about a half hour and I got my book signed quickly!! thats all that really matters right guys??? lol

Student Service Fair

A workshop after History class. It was just a gathering of students looking at services the school had to offer. The title does give about 95% of it away. I went with other classmates too. We all signed in and just took a walk around the crowded room. The tables were few and the people were many. Some tables offered free things to grab the attention of  some, others just offered information and pamphlets (which was good too). I learned that there was a lot about Baruch I still don’t know about. Time for an exploration day maybe.

Annual Student Services

So today I, as well as most of the people from APR2C, went to the Annual Student Services Fair right after History class.  I did not really know what to expect, I really only went to just get another workshop done (leaving only 1 left!).  All it really was was just people from different departments just answering questions anyone might have had.  It wasn’t a bad deal, I just had no real questions prepared beforehand.  There was a bit of a scramble to get the holes punched in the card they gave us so they would sign our books and take our raffle ticket.  It was kind of smart so people would actually go around and learn something.  I just wish it was a bit more organized.  Maybe like single file lines or something of the like because there were just crowds of people around the tables just to get their cards punched so they could be done with it as soon as possible.  All I know is that if I ever have a real question, I am going to go to the department itself, rather than ask a question at a “fair”.

Academic Enrichment

Hello again! I attended the club fair that Baruch hosted on September 24, 2009. I just noticed that the people who signed my planner has signitures that I cannot even read out- meaning that I don’t even know how to make out their name or the letters in their name. I didn’t expect this to be a workshop but hey, I’ll take anything (signing my planner). I actually enjoyed going and meeting the clubs out there. The thing is most clubs happen during club hours and I think the club members should be more alert of this because most people would want to join more than one clubs as I have seen my friends sign up for multiple clubs and having all the clubs happening at the same time is not going to have to work out. Well, not all clubs happen at the same time but most clubs have stated that they meet during club hours. I took interest in a couple of clubs but I have yet to actually join one. Overall, I enjoyed that day but I’m wondering is that all the clubs there are at Baruch because I expected more clubs since there is a much longer list on the Baruch website. Anyone else went to the club fair?

Workshop Numbero Uno

Hello everyone. So, this is my first post. I think this is what I’m suppose to do because there is no specific discussion group that I’m suppose to blog in. Anyway, my first workshop is the student life section. I attended the Freshmen Receptition on September 17, 2009 in room 5160. There was so many people that attended and the staff did not expect this large amount of participants and therefore, everyone was split into serval classrooms. They were suppose to pass out folders but there was not enough so I did not receive one but it is okay because I went a couple of days later to pick up that packet from the office. I actually expected the workshop to be much longer but it end up lasting 15 minutes total. Don’t be mistaken- I’m not complaining because I got to hang out with my friend afterwards. Overall, it was an…. interesting turnout of a workshop. I didn’t know what I was suppose to write about that day because it was belief so thanks everyone who gave me ideas! – Wai Lin

Blood Drive

Today I went to the blood drive with Cameron. We both signed up the thursday before I think. Cameron thought it’d be a good idea to just go after the speeches were done, and so we did. After Freshman Seminar, he and I went down to the multi-purpose room on the first floor and went to donate blood. The process was quick since we both donated blood before. The prick of the skin where they check our blood, the sitting and waiting, and then the going to donate was all pretty quick I guess. It’s good to know I am helping someone at least. The Blood center called me a few weeks ago saying they are in need of my blood type. Good thing I went today.

Blood Drive

So today I went to the blood drive with Peter.  It was alright…I mean I was just there to donate blood.  Process was kind of slow, but due to the limited number of seats…what else could I have expected?  I wish there were more chairs for people to donate blood, so then the process would have been quicker.  But I guess it is ok since at some point, it’s probably pretty dead around there.  Got there, filled out the form, did the pre-donation test, sat for a while, sat for a while longer, and finally got to donate blood.  After being bandaged up with a purple bandage and gauze, I had something to snack on in the rest area.  Oh, I forgot to mention that I saw my history teacher there, Prof Murphy!  Anyways, it is over now, I just wish the appointment time I signed up for could have been honored.

Club Fair!

The club fair was better than I thought it would be, except there was a mass of people everywhere!  The congestion was ridiculous.  Anyway, I signed up for a few clubs.  Kinda sucks that most of the clubs meet on Thursday though.  That means I can only join 1 club at a time.  I really wanted to join the Breakdance Club, but they were nowhere to be found!  It’s ok though, I think I’m going to stick with the Apple Student Club since I am an Apple-head (meaning I love Apple products and such…not that I have an apple shaped head).  And the “hip-hop showcase” that was suppose to go on in the back was pretty lame.  I thought it would be cool, but due to technical difficulties, they never did their performance, instead it was just freestyles and battles.  I mean I don’t mind those, but I would much rather have seen a well rehearsed and thought out showcase.  All in all the club fair was good.  Saw some cool clubs.  Got some food.  Had some entertainment and signed up for a few clubs.
