Idea For the Future

So I don’t know whether or not you guys really wanted to do it, but I think it’s a good idea. In our History class today, some of us thought it might be an awesome idea to go to Peter Luger’s Steakhouse around the end of the spring term. Of course planning this so early is going to be forgetful but just wanting to put this up so everyone can see. The prices are kind of steep for a non-employed person like myself but I’m sure everyone would enjoy having a whole group just sitting around. Business does require higher eating establishments. I would enjoy having dinner with all of you. So tell me what you think. Here’s the link for Peter Luger’s too.

Career Exploration Blog

I went to the Student Employment Fair on September 8th, 2009.  It was ok, they didn’t have an amazing selection of jobs, but it was jobs available none-the-less.  I just wished they didn’t give preference to the FWS (Federal Work Study) kids.  I applied to a few jobs, but no one contacted me back…I guess no job for me =(.  Someone hook me up with a job!

Student Life Blog

So yeah…I went to the Student Life Workshop, the “Freshman Open House” on Thursday Sept 17, 2009.  It was pretty awesome, considering we didn’t do much and just got our books signed.  Usually, they have about 100-200 freshman show up, but this time, EVERYONE showed up, so they didn’t have time to do their normal seminar, and they just signed the book and let us go.  I hope the rest of the seminars go like this!

Blood Donation On October 7

Hey This is Peter. So as the title goes, I think it would be a really cool thing if we all went and donated blood. It’s a quick and simple process. I’ve donated before and it’s pretty cool. The time is from 11-4:30 and I guess we all could go together and Bum Rush the place like how we all did on that Fresh Start thing. If you think it’s a good idea, or want to do something else we should talk about it.

Communication Skills/ Academic Success Strategies

Our second class session will be taking place on Tuesday, September 22nd, during regular class time. Please arrive to class on time, as there is much material to be covered due to a slight change in our freshman seminar curriculum. I realize that many of you haven’t attended a single workshop yet, and I would like to remind you that attendance of 6 workshops is mandatory, as well as blogging responses. See you all in class!

PS.

I have created blog categories according to those of the workshops, ie. an “Academic Enrichment” category in which you will post a response if you attended a workshop belonging to that category. Please make sure to choose the correct category when posting your responses; organization is not only key for professionalism, but also sanity. Thank you.

First Class Session of Freshman Seminar

Our first in-class seminar will be conducted on Tuesday, September 8, during the scheduled class time of 12:50 PM – 2:05 PM. September 8 will follow its regular Tuesday schedule. It will not be a Monday schedule, and to further expand on this issue, our future class sessions conveniently avoid those irregular weeks so we will always meet as planned. On another bright note, every student will be provided with their own planner which contains the workshop passport as a page, so you do not have to have it printed from the workshop webpage. The upcoming session will be focusing on adjusting to the Baruch culture, during which you will be informed of all the resources our wonderful institution has to offer, as well as of its policies, procedures, and standards. I look forward not only to seeing you all but to answering any questions you may have. Have a great week, and start “shopping” for workshops!

Enrichment Workshops

As I have explained on the day of the convocation, it is required that every Freshman Seminar student attends a minimum of six enrichment workshops. This link will take you to a page dedicated to these workshops. There you will find the list/schedules of all the available workshops, as well as the passport, which you need to have printed out and carry with you when attending your selected seminars. Once I familiarize myself with your class schedule I will play a bigger role in your workshop selection so we can attend these functions in groups. If you have problems with the link above you can copy and paste the following URL into your browser’s address box: http://www.baruch.cuny.edu/studentaffairs/StudentLife/fro/froworkshops.htm
