Personal Enrichment Workshop-Finding Your Major

This workshop was not so helpful and I didn’t expect it to be so unorganized. The two volunteers who ran the workshop were extremely nice and wanted to help, but it didn’t seem that they prepared enough or that they ever did anything like this before. Even though this workshop could have been better I did gain some knowledge on choosing my major. They helped us understand the different reasons in why we might choose a certain major and how we should try and make our final decisions. We got some handouts to fill out and discussed them in the workshop. It was very interesting hearing what everyone thought about their difficulties in picking their majors because I actually do not have any problems with it. I think its important for everyone to hear the things that were said in this workshop and I would be willing to share.

Student Life – Club Fair

The Club Fair was probably my best experience in Baruch so far. It was amazing to see how many students want to get involved in the most random things. There was a huge line to get in which definitely got me overwhelmed, but once I got in and spoke to a few people I finally felt like I was in a “real” college. I am Jewish so I thought it would be important to speak to the Hillel club which is a Jewish awareness club. I spent most of my time there speaking to Anna Ashkenazi who is the President of the club and she helped explain to me what they do and what events are coming up so I can get involved fast. This fair showed me how important it is to get involved and how easy Baruch makes it for us students.

The Club Fair

In this workshop, I took part in the club fair held at the school. In the fair, I learned about all the different clubs and was very excited. My only complaint is that I did not know who should sign my book, so I did not get that done yet. Otherwise the club was fun, albeit a little crowded.

Personal Enrichment Workshop

I attended the Stress and Anxiety workshop. Even though the speakers gave really good tips and addressed the topic well, I honestly could not keep myself awake to their extremely calm voices.

Arts at Baruch

I watched the play Dollhouse in the Englemen Recital Hall. Although I never read the book, I found this condensed version of the play to be really meaningful and touching. It was about a woman that was in a supposed loving marriage filled with lies, deceit, pain and finally release. I really enjoyed watching it.

The Freshman Internship & Goalsetting

I took this course and learned about all the opportunities they offered. As a man who has dreams of becoming a propane and propane accessories salesman, I found it asinine that the teacher did not offer internships at such places, but I digress. The event was very helpful and I loved it, I plan to go to STARR career development center soon, hopefully I will find something for law.

Freshman Reception: The story of Robert Smith

A long time ago, before the sands were sand and the waters were wet, I journeyed the catacombs of Baruch with a mission, a mission to find the signatures that would push me in to my many adventures. This was the first signature i went for, I believe, and the strangest of them all. I recall finding a line of students, curved as a snake, waiting outside of a room that was to be the location of an activity called “Freshman Reception”. I knew this was where I was to be and waited on line, but could not help feeling what was the purpose of this event? After I had entered, a swarm of children covered this room and devoured all the cookies and lemonade given to the visitors, I I knew what was to come next. The workers, in their kindness, lost all control as the students overtook the room like the locusts swarmed Egypt in biblical times. All hope was lost to us all, or was it? Out of desperation, one of the workers proclaimed a man the next savior in hopes of culling the angry and numerous students? This man was named Robert Smith, a name perhaps familiar to us all now, perhaps because of that very event, but in any case Robert Smith it was. Now many legends exist about Robert Smith, this one being no exception, and I can tell you that everything ever said about him is understated. Robert Smiths culled the hungry, savage eyed freshman with nothing but a writing utensil and his hands, at on point it appeared as if he grew two more hands, but however it happened he did it. I had the honor of being signed by this Jesus of Baruch, and was surprised to see the amazing penmanship he kept. I bid him good day and went on to many more adventures since then, but I often wonder where Robert Smith is now, what halls he traverses and what people have not heard his name.

As for the Freshman Reception, I felt it was badly organized since the workers had to designate new people and do not understand the purpose of the event. Overall a waste. I hope that next time the organizer takes in to consideration the amount of students that would appear or at least works out a way to do their work with the large amount of students.

5. Student Life

To fulfill the Student Life category I attended the “Your Life, Your Money” by HSBC presentation. This has been my favorite and most enlightening workshop. Not to mention, I got so many freebies!!! This worskhop was about teaching teens, specifically college students, but anyone who wanted to learn how to save, invest, set up retirement funds, stay out of unnecessary debt, how easy it is to fall onto debt, and how to make your money (no matter much or how little) work for you and not the other way around. It was an eye opener to how easily a young woman from Florida activated a credit card she didn’t apply for and managed to rack up $30,000+ of debt. Two of subjects in the film were actually present to take questions from audience member as well as the producer of the film. This taught me the necessity of saving. I knew it was important because it would be ome handy if ever I was in a jam or needed it for that faithful “rainy day”. In addtition, I also learned just how important living within your means really is. Splurging here and there sometimes can be dangerous. This workshop brought light to how important it is for individuals to keep track of their credit score. I’ve heard of this before, but never understood its importance or its purpose. I feel like after attending this workshop I had a clearer visual of how successful I can be not just with a good education and the right job, but by just managing my money in a savvy and smart way. Worth staying late after school to attend!!!!

The Blood Drive: One of many grand Quests

In my many quests to fulfill my Freshman Seminar Requirements, I decided to donate blood for the sake of others. Though I am naturally altruistic as well as attractive, I had never donated blood before and was wondering what the process would be like. I filled out my forms like any other and waited on line, as I waited a sense of boredom overcame me, but it quickly subsided. Then I laid down as I donated my blood, which took only 10 minutes because I am amazing. At this point I reached a conundrum, who would sign my Global awareness requirement? The nurses could not and I did not know who would be able to. Then I heard a voice, not unlike gods, call out to me “I will do it”. Next to me stood a man, nay an Adonis amongst men, who signed my passport as if it was nothing. I stared in awe at this figiure and though I knew the answer, I could not help but ask who he was. “My name is Carl Ayelman” responded the man with a smile “I’m the guy who sends out all those emails”. I was in shock, all my guesses were right, Carl Ayelman stood before me, perhaps on break from Mt. Olympus, and was speaking to me. “Ah, I know you, you have the same name as me” I responded and then I left, knowing that this was just one of many adventures I would have.

The blood drive was also great overall, my personal favorite out of all of them, community involvement is probably the way to go and should be done with more workshops. I have no complaints at all, everyone was professional and up to task.

Freshmen Reception(student life) 9/17

To be honest this workshop didn’t accomplish much. There were hundreds of students waiting for workshop and after 30 mins of waiting the adviser’s signed our books and everyone left. There just wasn’t enough academic advisers or space to accommodate the amount of people who attended.
