Managing Relationships

This event I must say was rather helpful. It taught me some tips on how to balance school and work, and also have a relationship. My main focus as of right now is to adjust to college life and find a plan that works for me to keep me focused. And this workshop really helped me, besides the Obama and Sotomayor workshop i feel this was defintely one of the best ones……

Freshman Seminar Meeting Time Tomorrow

Hello All,

I want to change the meeting time from 9:05 the regular class time to 10:30 since you will just drop off your signatures sheet and ask any final questions you may have. Also, by tomorrow all of you should have 6 signatures and at least 6 blogposts!

If you are one of the students with poor attendance you should do everything you can to ensure that you have everything completed!

We can still meet in our classroom so be sure to come at 10:30-:10:45 this is during our normal class time so no excuses. I am letting you sleep in a little.

If you do not give me your signatures and/or have not completed blog-posts by tomorrow you are at risk of not passing the class. SO MAKE SURE YOU ARE THERE TOMORROW TO HAND IN THE ABOVE REQUESTED MATERIAL!

PASS THE WORD ON!

Thanks,

Holdyn

Personal Enrichment

I attended the Managing Relationships in College workshop. It wasn’t the best workshop but it helps a lot on ideas and tips on how to maintain a relationship while trying to do well in college. I am trying to manage and balance time between my relationship, school as well as work. I must say it’s very hard in balancing the three but I hope to effectively manage them well. However, the workshop allowed me to meet new people and interact with them. I feel more confident about having a relationship in college while studying my butt off and doing well in college. (=

Academic Enrichment

When I transitioned from high school to college, I never knew that I would have trouble getting to know where is everything in the library. But the Library workshop helped me a lot with a lot of information. Such as where to borrow calculators, books and laptops. I also learned about the different things the Baruch Library website offers and what the library offers. Now, it’s a lot easier for me if I wanted to find a book, whether it it be in the library or online. The workshop made me more comfortable with the options and opportunities that the library provides for me, rather than hiding out in the vertical campus or going home when I need a quiet place to study (study pods ftw!)

Career Exploration

I went to the Diversity Leadership Workshop and it was very empowering as well as interesting. For a general view on Baruch, I don’t believe that it is VERY diverse (I mean I see a lot of Asian people everywhere, lol) but I do believe that is diverse in comparison to other colleges and universities. The workshop was very interesting because it made me realize that being in a diverse school has its advantages by meeting new people from different backgrounds and places as well as making connections with people for future references or anything. The workshop made me realize that although the school is very diverse, it doesn’t stop many of the student body from interacting with one another and getting to embody different cultures and ideas. personal enrichment

This workshop was somewhat useful. It talked about how to maintain personal relationships with others, while still being able to achieve in school. They talk about friends, relationships, and family. This stuff is kind of common sense, but its useful in the end and some people put these ideas aside. It is like repetitive of what you know, but a bit interesting at the end.

Arts at Baruch — A Doll’s House

The reading of A Doll’s House was really interesting, I guess it’s because I read the play in high school. But I found it to be really interesting that even though it was a reading that the speakers/actors were able to embody the character with little movement around the stage. Even though it was a reading, they conveyed a lot of emotion that shows Henrik Ibsen’s play as if it was just a movie or play in real life. I really liked the part when the main female character, Nora tells her husband that she doesn’t know herself and that she has to leave her husband and children to understand herself and the world. I liked it when she realizes that everyone has treated her like a child and that she isn’t capable of doing anything to make her better in life from a mother and wife. It is empowering for females to realize that they are capable of doing anything! (:

Career Exploration

On the September 17th I went to a workshop for Career Exploration.  It was kind of a long time ago and i forgot to blog about it until now.  So basically I don’t really remember too much that happened.  Except that i was there for maybe twenty minutes, got my booked signed and left right away.  So it was a good workshop because it was quick.

Arts at Baruch

On the 4th of November i participated in a workshop for the Arts at Baruch.  I went and watched a reading of a play called A Doll’s House.  Usually I hate any types of plays.  But this production was actually pretty interesting.  There was no set and all the actors did was read off of the script.  However, they still were very active and got the audience very engaged with their readings.  I was thouroughly impressed with the performanced and was suprised at myself for actually enjoying it a bit.  Overall i enjoyed the experiance and would recommend it to other students

Arts at Baruch

I attended Miskin Art Gallery for my Arts at Baruch requirement. Personally, I’m not really interested in art, so from the start, I thought that it would not be enjoyable. The workshop was very short, however, I did not learn much. We basically walked around and looked at art.
