A Dolls House Reading

I saw a live reading of the play A Dolls House. It was good but i was already familiar with the play. Its about a woman named Nora who is happily married to her husband Torvalt until a mean banker trys to blackmail Nora. He can do this because he gave Nora a loan to take her husband on vacation when he was ill and Nora fake signed her fathers signature on it. It ends happily ever after though.

Get a fresh start

This was a guidance like workshop to help you in college. It didn’t really help me becuase most the information is common sense. These kinds of workshops would be good resources if you felt you need them but its a waste of time to be forced to go.

career planning: basic interview technique

Well i went to the basic interview technique workshop. There they talk about some of the stuff people should already know about going to interview, like how to dress and what to bring with you. Also they told us to remember what we have on our resume which i have forgotten. they also showed what is a proper business handshake. There were a few tips on how to relax before an interview which is very helpful knowing show people stress sometimes the little things. On the hand out that was given at the workshop there was a listing of place where we can go to get business at a reasonable price. I needed that as well.

Perspectives on Immigration

This was a very interesting lecture that fulfilled the Global-Community Awareness category. The professor giving the lecture had been researching Mexican immigrants for about 20 years. His finding disproved many theories that people had about immigrants before. He was able to show that a lot of immigrants are able to achieve more during their life than many theorists had previously thought.

Berlin Wall

In this Student Workshop, we learned about the Berlin Wall. The Berlin Wall was a concrete barrier built by the German Democratic Republic, East Germany, that completely enclosed the city of West Berlin, separating it from East Germany, including East Berlin. The Berlin Wall was officially referred to as the “Anti-Fascist Protection Wall” by the communist East Germany authorities, implying that the western countries controlling West Berlin were fascist. The West Berlin city government sometimes referred to it as the Wall of Shame, a term coined by Willy Brandt. The fall of the Berlin Wall paved the way for German reunification. This workshop was meant to teach us not to make the same mistakes of the past but to learn from them to help in shaping our future.

Gallery Tour

This workshop was the longest wait, but the shortest workshop. It was about 10 minutes. It felt like going on a roller coaster. You wait on line for two hours, but the ride was a few seconds. Other than the long wait, the workshop was quite enjoyable. The workshop showed work from and artist, Mercedes Matter, during different points in her life. Matter was interested in still life paintings, and as she got older, her work became more and more abstract. The largest painting in the middle of the room, I believe, is the most charming.
