Wall Street Club – 2 meetings

In the first I learned the basics of the club. They do trivia and interesting activities most of the time to improve everyone’s knowledge of trading. It is a very well organized club and the student speaker is phenomenal.

In the next event, a wonderful presenter came from JP Morgan Chase. His job was to basically shmooze with people of over one hundred million dollar net worth. It was very interesting. the speaker had no almost no technical work and was hired for his ability with people. JP Morgan at the higher levels gets customers by being trustworthy, not offering the highest return. It was easy to learn a lot by the way he spoke and more.

Law Club – First meeting

Fascinating discussion of the Baruch law majors. I learned what classes I should take for entrepreneurship later and a little bit about the required law course. I also saw how much work the hopeful law students have to do! The professors were very funny and smart. The sandwiches were superb and flavorful.

Count this as whatever you like. Personal enrichment sounds fine to me.

Arts at Baruch – The silberman Concert Series Mandelssohn and Mozart with Alexander String Quartet

For my art music class i had to attend this concert on string instrument. There  were 3 violins and 1 bass violin.  i was amazed at the sound they had produced. The technique they show in playing the violin stunned me. I never really was interested in classical musi but after listening to it and the way they played, it really amazed me. Seeing them first hand and how they play taught me that producing classical music can be really hard casue all 4 of them had to be in sync. I learned alot from this profermance and it was an enjoyable experience.

Impression Management

October 13, 2009

[12:30-2:30]

I chose to attend this workshop among the rest of the options because I’m planning to get a job soon and I know how important first impressions could be. The workshops was intended to inform us of ways to improve our first impressions by enhancing the way we walk, talk, and look. It did not take my out of my comfort zone because the workshop was more informative than challenging. The workshop did meet all my expectations because it gave me ways to better my first impressions. I would recommend it to other students because it is a great opportunity to learn different ways to improve yourself. I learned that how we present ourselves physically is what others judge us by first. The way we speak takes second place but should not be forgotten.

impression management

oct 13

12:30-2:15
The workshop I atteneded informed us of the importance of first impressions. It did not take me out of my comfort zone because I knew how important first impressions are. However, it went into details about what future employers look for in a candidate for a job opening. I think that in order to prefect the details that the workshop mentioned I would have to pratice from now on maintaining a clean image because we are judged at all times. It did meet my expectations by introducing ways in which I could enhance my image such as maintaining a good posture at all times. I would recommend this workshop to others because first impressions are important if they would like to go further into a career.

mercedes matter

Nov 3 1-2

This has been one of the worst workshops that I have attended so far! I think that it was a waste of time because the line was extremely long and the tour was very short. Our guide told us the overall concept of Ms. Matter, however, I wanted to look at the art work longer. I wouldn’t recommend going to the workshop. There is a website that also has the interesting art work that’s available there.

managing relationships in college

Oct 8 12:30-2:00

This workshop was very interactive and helpful. It was suppose to give us advice on the various relationships we will form in college and how they should be maintained. I attended the workshop with my friends. It didn’t take me out of my comfort zone because I enjoy getting to know others. I found the workshop helpful because it gave me tips on maintaining relationships that form in college and how they will benefit me in the future. I would recommend others to attend the workshop because of the advice it will give them and the opportunity to meet new people.

Changing America: Judge Sonia Sotomayor

Sept 22 12:50-1:40

The workshop was supposed to give us a brief introduction into the life of Sonia Sotomayor. I thought that it was important for me to attend this workshop because it is important to understand the importance of her position and how it will affect America. I don’t think that it took me out of my personal zone because the workshop was challenging. It was basically a presentation. I thought that it was going to be a boring presentation about her childhood etc. however, the professors who spoke made the topic interesting. Each professor shed light on different areas and their perspectives on her election was appreciated. I would recommend this workshop to others because it gave me the opportunity to learn about someone that I did not know much about.

Mercedes Matter

November 3 1:00-2:00

There isn’t much that I learned from the gallery tour. There was a long line as usual, so the tour was short. We were directed to pay attention to how Ms. Matter used lines and shapes to create abstract art. Since there weren’t many options to choose from, I decided to attend this gallery tour because it seemed more interesting than landscaping. I think if the tour was a bit longer I would have been able to find it interesting rather than confusing.

Human Trafficking

So.. I needed one more workshop, the personal enrichment and there just happened to be none left before the end of the semester, so I oked an extra career planning whih i was not to excited about. So 12:30 comes around and I can’t find the stupid room so I tried the multi purpose room since thats where they usually get moved to anyways and there was a meeting going on in there. I am soooo glad I found that. That was by far the best personal enrichment I have gone to. It was about ending human trafficking and it really pushed me outside my comfort zone. I plan to get involved in this group and even start going to their club meetings on thursday. Great experience!
