Hey guys! 😀
I would like for you to tell me about your experiences at Baruch so far.
Some things you might want to include: Is college life any different than how high school was like for you? What do you like the most about Baruch and what do you like the least about it? Are there any clubs that you checked out that you are interested in? What classes are you having trouble in? Were your expectations for Baruch before you came different than how you think of it now? … These are just a few suggestions, you are free to write about any of your experiences or thoughts at Baruch. (please respond in at least a paragraph)
Hey (: My name’s Nikkie, and so far my experiences at Baruch have been positive. College is different from high school but no major changes. I like that there are longer periods of time in between classes, and that we’re not in class as often. And the length of the classes are long. But what surprised me is the fact that I’m able to pay attention for a majority of the class. I thought it would be very boring and I’d be falling asleep. In high school I was usually bored, waiting for the class to end 20 minutes into the period. I like my Psychology class, even though it has maybe 500 people in it. It’s interesting. I dislike Math, probably because it’s my weakest subject, and I feel my teacher’s teaching skills are not up to par. In class I feel like I get it, but when I try to do the homework I realize the notes he wrote on the board are of no help. I like that at Baruch the people are nice. At my high school, people would push and shove just to get into elevators. Here, people actually wait for the next one if they don’t fit. I dislike that it’s hard to meet people. Everyone is always rushing out at the end of class, myself included. The people I hang out with are the people I hung out with at my high school. I’m not really sure what clubs I want to join, but I hope to find out soon! Oh yeah, I also like that the commute is much shorter but there are greater consequences if you are late than in high school. But overall my Baruch experience has been positive and I hope it stays that way! (:
Hey everyone, I’m Rama Santayana. I’ve been enjoying Baruch so far. It’s a lot different from my high school in CT. One of the things I enjoy about Baruch is the diversity in the campus. It’s hard to find that at my old high school. Another thing that I enjoy about Baruch is the huge amounts of freedom. Whenever I have a long break, I can hang out with my friends and go to interesting places. It’s tough having to wake up at 6 am in order to make the train to Grand Central, but the positives of Baruch make the commute worth it.
I am having trouble with Art History because it’s something that I’m never really into. About clubs, I’m thinking of joining “Fusion” because I want to keep in touch with my Filipino culture.
Overall, I am enjoying my college experience and I am pleased that I made the choice to go to Baruch.
P.S. Friday offs all the way!
hey evry im sonya. So far Baruch has been pretty good, went to a couple of parties and joined the swim team, Unforutanetly i am already having probelms in math. I nuderstand most of it but my teacher does not let to explain well after class and im finding it hard to get someone in my class to help. Anyway i like the fact that i can just sit anywhere i want without having secruity question me like in high school. I wished i lived in queens or brookyn, communting sucks. People in long island get to school faster than me.
I agree with most of the previous comments about the difference between high school and college. We are afforded more freedom in college, but at the same time there is more responsibility to keep up with the coursework. I really enjoy that Baruch is a commuter college, I think that it makes it easier to stay on top of work that way. I haven’t really had a chance to see all the clubs I’m waiting for the club fair, but I have joined GLASS and I’ve been to couple of their meetings. I am really enjoying my classes at Baruch, they’re interesting and/or engaging. The only bad thing is that it’s hard to work a lot of hours and still keep up.
Hey guys! As you probably already know, I’m Sabrina 🙂 I definitely like college better than high school. We have more freedom and are treated as adults. We can use our cell phones, have our laptops, and are allowed to leave the school whenever we please. What I like about Baruch is the diversity of cultures. You get to meet people from all countries and learn about their customs. I wish there were more seating areas though…they fill up quick! :\
At our Freshman Convocation I found out about the Latin Ballroom Club and am definitely interested in joining that. However, I haven’t gotten around to it yet. My favorite class has got to be Psychology for the massive size of it. Never a dull moment. Professor Albright keeps us entertained as well. Having English first thing in the morning doesn’t really make me look forward to it. We’ve had that class the least amount of times so far. Anybody else notice that?
Alright, I think I overdid it…bye! 🙂
hello everyone. my name is noor. i like baruch so far. even though it hasn’t been that long, i love the experiences that i have went though so far. college life at baruch is definitely a lot different than high school. the people are different, the teachers and the classes are a lot more different than in high school. the thing i like most about baruch is that its big and diverse and very big on helping new people get used to college life. i was interested in joining a sorority when i first started school but when i realized that i dont really have time for clubs and stuff like that i changed my mind about joining a club. my expectations for baruch were similar to what i actually experienced.
Hi there, my name is Adam Ho and my experience at Baruch has been a nice change of pace. Instead of short 3 minute breaks after classes in high school, college gives us nice long breaks to relax, and also to focus on our studies and be prepared. I agree a lot with what has been said here; there is so much free time but the classes also demand us to find out the assignments on our own, and there is no “homework” section on the board for our convenience. My least favorite part about classes is having to pay attention for such a long amount of time, especially Math, but my favorite class has to be psychology. Even though it has over 400 kids, it’s the most interactive class I’m in. Overall, College is a bit overwhelming at first but hopefully we’ll all get a hang of it and study hard. And make lots of money!
Hey Everyone!
I’m Julia Kozakova, I love Baruch. There’s so much freedom when you compare it to High school yet somehow it establishes responsibilities on you. In high school I have to say we were really babied with teachers constantly reminding us about deadlines and speaking to us after class, but here your lucky if a teacher knows your name. But Baruch is a taste of real life, with great perks of being in the city, which my friends and I explore on our breaks.I especially love it when the teachers let us out extra early!! I haven’t checked out any clubs yet but the study abroad programs seems like a great idea for junior year!
hi
My name is Isaac Setton, and so far i am loving the college experience at Baruch. The freedom, the short schedules, its all fun so far. Its much different from my high school because everyday we would have class from 715 till 530 with only 45 minute break! At least in Baruch i have a nice 3 hour break to do whatever i want. Also the 500 people in one class is very different since in high school i had 160 kids in my grade. Baruch is teaching me responsibility and thats one of the things i looked to gain from coming here, i am excited for the next few years and hopefully will be able to get involved in clubs and stuff.
Hey guys <3333333 I'm Mark Dyu. The college experience so far has been quite demanding yet intriguing. The main difference i notice from high school is that if you don't stay on top of your work and your assignments, you'll most likely end up doing very poorly. In certain classes the teachers still do remind you of your assignments, however in a lecture class like psychology, you're on your own. Therefore college has made me a more organized and responsible student, and i definitely owe a big thank to Baruch for those important qualities. I actually appreciate the lack of a dorm life in Baruch, because i believe that at the end of the day, we're in college to learn. The lack of dorm life keeps the distractions from school work to a minimum. I love the gym. I love the pool. I love the hood Baruch is in. And i love having Fridays off.
Hey everyonce, my name is urva. I really like Baruch so far because its pretty diverse and i havent seen a college like it at all. The campus always seems so lively and its location makes it even more exciting. The only tough thing about college so far is that everything is so high-tech like since when was math an online thing? i really love everything else though except the whole waiting forever for an elevator. I hope i stay on track in college and dont get distracted by anything else because im realy hoping to do good in college.
Hey guys, my name is Sophia Serobian. I’ve always thought college was a world away from high school. But in reality, it’s not too different. College is just a bigger pool than high school. College has definitely defined independence for me. I rely more and more on myself everyday, rather than on others. My favorite thing about Baruch is obviously the freedom; least favorite thing is the 2 hour break in between classes. I’m thinking of checking out clubs next semester, once I’m a bit more settled in Baruch. Math is not yet confusing, but I’m sure it will be as the year progresses. My expectations of Baruch were actually pretty accurate.
Hello Everybody !
I wanna share some excitement about my college experience so far. Since I didn’t get to go away for college, I decided to make the best of being a commuter college student in one of the greatest cities in the world: New York City. The first couple of days of college I went to a few college parties, and quickly learned that college assignments are quiet but deadly. First week I realized that there were about 100 pages I haven’t read for my classes, which underscores the responsibility we took on after we left high school. However, since this realization I kept a wonderful planner to organize my self nicely. I , ultimately basked in what college has to offer and took advantage of its facilities and awesome free goodies that come our way ! I joined the Baruch’s swim team, which is outstanding for it’s clean pool, and amazing coach and fellow swimmers. Also, I have attended in rush meetings for a sorority I am very much considering to join. I am excited, to learn and am already happy with the knowledge that my expensive , yet, wonderful books shared with me. I hope EVERYONE THIS BLOCK , gets a chance to participate in some of Baruch’s amazing clubs and takes advantage of all the truly amazing things it has to offer. It doesn’t to seem like a commuter school !
Yours truly, Yasya
Hello! My name is Aleksandra Cerniha. It has only been three weeks since I have started attending Baruch and so far, I really enjoy it. College seems to be very different from high school. Many people complain about the flood of responsibilities that come with being a college student but I feel that the amount of freedom that accompanies them definitely outweighs those responsibilities. I can’t say I am too surprised about the college atmosphere because I had many of my friends tell me about it so I was more or less prepared. I appreciate the fact that teachers are straight-forward with you and don’t “hold your hand,” figuratively speaking. The class hours are a lot more flexible as well so I can manage my time better. I don’t seem to be having any trouble in my classes yet (besides Math, but Calculus is annoyinggggg…). I haven’t checked out any of the clubs yet either but I will be getting to that soon. :]
My experience in college so far has been positive. There are many similarities, we travel together with the same group of people like in junior high and I talk to the same people I have known prior to coming to Baruch. Also, there are no bells that signifies the end of a class, but you still have to check the time so it’s actually not that different. The thing that most college students enjoy is the freedom they have compared to hs, but it has generally been the same for me. The difference is that the commute to school is much lengthier but I get a lot of reading done on the train. Which brings me to what I like least about college (CUNYs in general), it’s a commuter school where most of the students live off campus and it’s definitely harder to meet/make friends. I like our block because of the constant three day weekend so a week seems to pass by quicker than it did in high school, and everyone is extremely friendly. I haven’t looked into any clubs yet but I plan to join one so that I could be more involved in the school.

Hii there =)
My name is Shirley Romy, and so far my experience at Baruch College has been pretty fun. I do think that college life is different than high school life because in college, one gets a lot more freedom and responsibility. I really enjoy attending Baruch because of all the great people that I have met here. I also really like the area in which the school is located. Another thing I really like is my schedule. I come to school early and i leave school early. This gives me a lot of time to do other things that I might need to do. I basically like college life so far. I enjoy my classes and love the fact that both my classmates and professors are nice. As of right now, i don’t have anything negative to say about college life. Hopefully it stays as fun as it is now. <3
Hey! =] My name is Irina Bondartseva. I have enjoyed my time at Baruch so far. I have met many new people and the people are nice here. The difference between high school and Baruch is the amount of people in classes like Psychology and the use of blackboard and emailing . In college, you are not really reminded what to do. You are responsible to get everything done on your own and make sure you don’t slack off. I like that Baruch offers a variety of clubs and activities. There are a lot of helpful resources. I am enjoying my experience at Baruch and have a few clubs in mind that I want to join.
hello =D
my name is margaret panayiotou and well my experience at Baruch College as of right now has been fun. it isnt different from my regular high school life ,mostly because i believe that my high school has prepared me to be able to focus and do well in college. the big thing i like about Baruch is the location and the feel of the college, so far it isnt competitive and everyone seems friendly, i loveeee my schedule to death lol and i wish it could always be like this. the one thing that i can say is that i feel i am working harder as a college student and i am not slacking in any of my work as of yet, but i know that sooner or later i might be. >.< i love my psychology class because it surprisingly doesnt bore me as i thought it might since it is a class of 500 students.
