Gallery Tour: Mercedes Matter 11/03

I attended the Gallery Tour at Mishkin, the exhibit (?) was called Mercedes Matter: A Retrospective. Matter was an artist for most of her life and the exhibition presents artwork  following her visual imagination from early childhood paintings through her mature work. She used many shapes in her artwork, specifically triangles to bring out a certain type of boldness to her paintings. The tour guide explained how the work was split up and you can see how she matured and learned new techniques. I noticed many of the works were untitled and the one that caught my eye was sadly also untitled but it had a black and white background with red and green unique shapes. The actual workshop was about 20 minutes but waiting to get in took 40 minutes because there was already a group inside. I learned that art relates to business because many of the deals made are with corporate executives and Baruch wants their students to have a diverse education.
