Baruch Library

Sometimes when you can’t study at home because of all the distractions around you, going to the library might be just what you need.

After going to the Baruch library, what do you guys think of it and the many resources that it has to offer? In your opinion, what aspect of the library do you find the most useful and why? (Example: study rooms, computers, burrowing laptops, printers, study areas, books…) So far, what have you used the library?

Global Awareness Workshop, 9/22

I attended a Global Awareness workshop on the 22nd of September regarding Sonia Sotomayor. There were several guest speakers who spoke about Sonia Sotomayor’s struggle and how she came to be in the Supreme Court. The first guest speaker looked at Sotomayor in terms of women’s struggle against sexism. The second guest speaker related Sotomayor’s struggles with those of Puerto-Ricans, Hispanics, and Mexicans, and blacks in America. The third guest speaker talked about people’s expectations of Sonia Sotomayor. The workshop was very interesting to listen to because the guest speakers appeared to be very enthusiastic about their presentations and knew their material well. The speeches made me aware of the problems and injustice residing in the Supreme Court.

Freshmen Reception 9/17 Workshop

Hello! I attended the Freshmen Reception workshop on the 17th of September for the Student Life category. The people in charge were not prepared for the great amount of people that showed up so it was a little unorganized and took a while to begin. Eventually, we all sat down. They briefly and generally discussed our future goals in Baruch college (i.e. choosing a major, taking required classes for said major, etc.). It was mostly a repetition of the Freshmen Orientation back in August, but it was refreshing to hear the information again. The workshop was, though short, quite informative and it reminded me about the priorities of being a student in college. Also – there were cookies!

The Club Fair

I recently went to Baruch’s Club Fair to check out the many clubs available. It was kind of cool and convenient to see everything everyone had to offer lined up since it made it that much easier to discover a club that I’d enjoy instead of searching for one. A few of the clubs seemed interesting to me but I’m not really sure which ones I’ll be joining. Most of them just seem like great ways to meet new people while other clubs like this one finance-oriented way seem to guide you to things that’ll actually help you on your way towards a certain professional goal. I’m still not decided as to whether I want to join a serious club, or a fun social one. Either way, I’d recommend other people to check out the clubs Baruch has to offer. I’m sure they’ll find something they like 🙂

Club Fair

Hey everyone. Last Thursday, I went to the Club Fair and I had a blast. It was fun seeing all of the clubs at one place. I also enjoyed the free stuff and food that I got from the stands. I got a Mac Bag, as well as a nice Subway Map. I also tried the soda candy from the Anime Club. It tasted interesting, but it wasn’t my type. I enjoyed watching the dancers that danced with the loud music. Everyone was friendly and made me feel welcome. I am very interested in joining the Fusion Club and maybe the NYMIA. I cannot wait to join the clubs because it’s an awesome way of getting to know new people.

I had went to the club fair on Thursday the 24th of September. It was jam-packed with many kids looking at the clubs that Baruch College had to offer. I was amazed at how many kids were there promoting the clubs and the amount of kids looking to join the clubs offered. It was amazing to see how many students had school spirit as many would call it. the club fair was a great experience that helped me learn more about the clubs i had wanted to join to expand my horizons. it had also made me realize how many people are actually in Baruch College. =]

Art Gallery

Hello =]. So i had went to the art gallery on Tuesday the 22nd. This gallery was filled with many photographs that were beautifully done.i enjoyed learning more about the pictures and the artists that had taken time to create a wonderful piece of art. It was very cool to see that many kids were into the art as they were all amazed by the pieces there. I enjoyed the artwork and enjoyed the experience of going to an art gallery seeing as I have never done that before. The only thing that was a bit of a problem for me was that i did not get to hear as much about the beautiful art pieces because many kids were talking over our tour guide =[ but other than that it was a great experience.

Club Fair

I attended the Baruch College club fair on Thursday, September 24th. It was located at the gym. This workshop was to inform Baruch students of all the clubs the school has to offer. I enjoyed the workshop because I was able to see what clubs I may be interested in. I also enjoyed it because everyone was very friendly. I would definitely recommend other students to attend club fairs because these fairs are very beneficial if you’re looking to be a part of something.

Freshman Enrichment and Study Abroad Fair

On Thursday September 17th I was fortunate enough to be able to attend two workshops in one day. First I went to the study abroad fair in which I enjoyed a lot because next year I want to study in Italy, Rome or one of those places overseas. Ive heard from friends about how much fun studying abroad can be. Its a totally different environment and you can learn different things than you would if you were to stay in America. The people at their booths were extra nice and provided me with all the information. This is just the beginning to my research into studying abroad and I will look more further into next year. The second thing I was able to attend was the Freshman Enrichment Seminar. Here I walked around a room and saw all the different things that I can do at Baruch. I was introduced to all the different things ranging from the student government to peer tutoring if I ever needed help in any subject. This was a chance for me to see all the different freshman in Baruch this year and I met a few new kids from it. This was a great program for incoming freshman because it makes you feel wanted and included in this school with about 15000 kids, especially coming from a school with 500 kids. I would recommend this to all incoming freshman so that they be comfortable in a new environment.

Club Fair

The club fair is a perfect opportunity for you guys to find a club that interest you and allows you to become more involved in your school. By joining a club, you get the chance to meet new people and get a sense of campus life. Instead of going to school everyday and then going home right after, you might find that you really enjoy your club and become more involved outside of club hours. There are about 170 clubs in Baruch so the chance of finding something you enjoy is very likely.

After going to today’s club fair, I want you all to tell me which ones you’re interested in joining and why it appeals to you. What does this club have to offer you and what type of activities do they do? You could also include your experience and what type of thoughts were going through your mind upon entering the gym where the club fair was being held.
