1) Title of the Workshop – Mediating Conflict and Resolving Disputes at Baruch
2) Enrichment Area Fulfilled – Personal Enrichment Workshop
3) Date/Time Attended – 10/29/09, from 12:30 p.m to 2:00 p.m.
4) How did the workshops affect your perspective of the topic that was discussed?
– Through this workshops, I realize being a fitting mediator is not an easy thing. I’m glad that I learned certain skill that are very useful in solving the conflict between people. Moreover, I realize that there’s a Ombuds office. Therefore, whenever I have conflict with any peers or professors, I could go there and meet the faculties, see if i could get any aid from them.
5) How did the workshop take you out of your comfort zone?
– In taking me out of my comfort zone, the instructor of the workshop actually presented us with some situation that really take place in Baruch, such as the conflict between professors and students. I think that was really helpful because I could actually know what the problem is addressed and how it becomes solved.
6) Explain what the workshop was about and tell us why you specifically chose that workshop.
– After not being able to attend the personal enrichment workshop last friday due to the cancellation of the workshop, I finally attended the workshop, “Mediation Conflict”, today. The reasons I chose this workshop ware that I needed signature for personal enrichment section, and I wanted to know what this workshop is about. On glancing over the room of the workshop, I thought it should be a little bit bigger because some peers had no choice but to sit on the floor. We all were divided in groups, and, apparently, each group was assigned to a certain situation even through most of the situations were related to the conflict between professors and students. The purpose of this activity was to guide us to be a fitting mediatior whose job is to try his/her best to solve the issues between people. Throughout this activity, the mood was fine. The members of each group chose what role they wanted to be, and then they started acting out the situation they were assigned to. The instructor would ask them to pause and give them suggestions of what they should say. Perhaps the workshop was quite short; not all the groups had the chance to present their situation. Overall, this workshop was worth one hour.
Thanks for the head up. Anyway, who are you?
