The first week of being in Baruch College allowed me to have a better sense in traveling around the Vertical Campus building, but during this week’s class of freshmen seminar, Jane Odartey, our mentor for the class, showed us a different building that was different from all the other campus. Jane helped us navigate around a building that students go to and spend most of their time there and may even sleep there during midterms and finals, which is the William and Anita Newman library. This library isn’t like any other library that I had ever been too. The library was filled with numerous students. Books, computer, comfortable chairs and laptops seem to be endless. During the tour, Jane told us about different parts and floors of the library and the uses of it. She showed us where the quietest room with dim lighting is, so students are able to take a nap. There are also private rooms allowed for two or more people to study. The library is fully equipped; we are able to borrow books, calculators and even laptops. Jane also taught us how to do a self-check out, instead of waiting on the long line. I am glad I had this tour; it was really helpful and useful. I can see myself spending a lot of time there just like the rest of Baruch’s students.
Stephanie,
This is a really good post! though I should point out that students are not allowed to sleep in the library even during Mid-term and Finals week when the library is open 24/7. Also, the dim lighted rooms where we found several students napping is the reading room; where some students go when they want to do some light reading, its okay if doze off after a few pages though!
Keep up the good work stephanie!
