This week’s Freshman Seminar class has been more interesting than the previous one because our peer mentor, Jane, took us on a library tour at the Newman Library. Due to Jane’s expertise on the library, I discovered exactly where to borrow textbooks and even learned a quick and efficient way to borrow books, which simply requires a scan of your Baruch ID and the material you wish to borrow. The same week, thanks to Jane’s informative tour, I was able to easily borrow a textbook to do the reading for my Art History class. Jane also showed us that the library is not only a just a place where one has to study, but also a place where one can just relax or even fall asleep. In addition she also showed us the rooms where you can study in pairs. I think these rooms are very effective and I may use them myself because they allow for solitude from all the distractions and sounds. Since Jane has showed us the many benefits and features of the library, I feel that I can confidently navigate and utilize the library on my own without feeling lost. The library no longer seems like an intimidating place and now I feel more comfortable going there.
Mohammed,
First of all, I like your title. Though libraries are not just buildings containing books anymore but also places for internet browsing, as well as numerous workshops on various educational topics, they are also the place where we find the most books!
Its important to know all the necessary informations about the library for the success of your undergraduate years at Baruch and I am really delighted to know that you feel comfortable about exploring our exciting library and using its many resources!
