Approximately one week prior to last Thursday, I received a postcard in the mail informing me of a Freshman seminar at Baruch. The postcard claimed it would be a great opportunity to get accustomed to my new surroundings. After finishing classes on Thursday, I went to where the reception was supposed to held and found myself in the middle of a massive crowd unsure of what to do at this point. The staff was unsure too apparently. The turnout for this event was ten times higher than they had anticipated. Uncertain, the staff scrambled to put us all into rooms and attempted to explain how things hadn’t gone as planned. Regardless, they did their best to tell us what they needed to, albeit in a rushed manner. Believe it or not, their rushed manner was surprisingly beneficial, since all of the information they gave had been given to me prior during orientation. This way, the reception served as not a long, drawn out repeat of orientation, but rather a concise, helpful reminder of what to expect during my time at Baruch.
