Database Survival workshop

Today, October 15, 2009, I attended the Database Survival workshop at the Library on the second floor. It was a rather short workshop from 12:45 to 1:15p.m, but it was very useful. A lot of students showed up to learn about Baruch’s database. I learned that by typing a variety of words and phrases, I can search the links of the related websites, pictures, maps and graphs. We also learned that vocabulary is important when performing these searches. The more specific phrases you use the more specific results you’ll get. Also, since there is more than one way of saying things, the kinds of words you choose reflect on what results you’ll find. For example, using casual words and phrases gives simple results, unlike using formal language which could give more detailed results. I found this workshop to be quite useful knowing that this database can help me write papers and study for future tests and exams.
