This past Tuesday, November 3 2009 from 12:45 – 1:15, I attended the Arts at Baruch workshop on Mercedes Matters’ A Retrospective Exhibition in the Sidney Miskin Gallery located on East 22nd street. I along with fourteen other colleagues took a tour with Sandra Karskin, a friendly speaker that informed us about the artworks and how the artist’s personal preferences affect the way her artworks are being depicted. She first told us that students should consider entering the art field for business since art is quite big these days. Then she went on telling us about the artworks. Most of the artwork displayed are very colorful and abstract, viewers will need to look into the artwork to grasp the message of the work. Towards the late years of the artist, her artworks are less colorful and express some sort of despair. Overall, this workshop is very helpful and informing since I learned a lot more about abstract art and I will recommend this workshop to those that are interested in art.
