On thuesday November 3 2009 I attended an art exhibit right here at Baruch college. Our exhibit had artworks of Mercedes Matters throughout her life. Her artworks are considered modern art, and we can see her grow in her styles of art as she ages. I learned that Mercedes Matters had been painting since she was a young child. As her earlier form of painting shows she painted more realistic objects, but as she grows out of her teens she painted more of abstract pieces of painting. She used many colors and love painting shapes to create a balance in her artworks but her paintings did not model realistic objects. I never thought that I could get such a valuable art lesson just from the Baruch art museum, but that day I learned about a artist that I had never heard of before. In the future I hope to visit not only museums in the city but also the Baruch art museum.
