Career Planning: Impression Management

This workshop discussed the importance of making good first impressions, and good imressions in general. We were spoken to about how we should conduct ourselves when in the company of people, especially professors, employers or anyone with authority. What was stressed was that the majority of communication is nonverbal. We communicate with authority figures, without even saying a word. We communicate through body language and facial expressions. What was taught was that we need to be aware of what we are doing when we are not talking, because if we look uncomfortable, inattentive, unhappy or anything similar to this, we will have a bad impression.  Also discussed was that it is hard to reverse a bad impression, although it is possible. This workshop taught me to be more aware of my body language, and that people say way more than they think they do when not speaking.
