On Thursday, November 19, I went to a career exploration workshop called Job Fair Prep, from 12:30 to 2:00 PM. When I got to the first floor multipurpose room, there was line of people waiting to sign in and be seated. The place was crowded with many freshmen, sophomores, and a few juniors and seniors. Two men from Verizon Company came to talk to us about how to prepare ourselves for the Job Fair held today, Friday November 20th. There were packets handed out that was very useful on how to prepare yourselves for interviews. The packet had examples on what question would be asked and a few example answers, formats for resume and “Thank You” letters. The men from the Verizon Company also told us to always be prepared to “sell yourself”, even in simple places such as elevators because you never know who you might meet. They told us what information to include when we introduce ourselves and to keep it under 2 minutes. Always keep eye contact and use a confident voice, it shows that you are engaged and strong in the conversation and forces other people to listen to what you say. Although this Workshop was quite long compared to the other workshops I had ever been to, I learned a lot from this workshop and I definitely recommend it. This workshop helps us understand the working environment and how to prepare ourselves for it. It helped me know what I have to do in order to prepare for an interview and how to stand out compare to the rest of the competitors fighting for the position.
