The Mercedes Matter art gallery, as small as it is, is abundant with abstract and modernist works of art. The artist, Mercedes Matter, paints in a unique style in which she doesn’t outline or show definition in the objects that she depicts. I learned that the purpose in freely depicting figures is that artists at this time wished to represent figures as they interpreted them. Mercedes Matter also utilizes repitition of shapes in her paintings. She specifically uses many triangles to create more defined objects. While touirng the gallery, I was fascinated with the many artworks because the vague representations and various colors highlyappealed to me. I really enjoyed the different artworks because they provided a new understanding of visually representing simplistic objects. For example, the artist complicates simple figures, such as tables and chairs, by using numerous overlapping lines. I really enjoyed doing this workshop because it was very engaging and it allowed me to be more active byallowing me to examine the different works of art.
