Gallery Tour

On November 17th I visited the Baruch Art Gallery on the intersection of Lexington Avenue and 22nd Street. The artist on display when I visited was Mercedes Matter. She is a modernist painter whose art is very abstract and heavily reliant on the use of different shapes and colors. The style in which she paints intrigued me because there was no definite shape or outline in her paintings but if you look closely you can see that she actually uses a lot of triangles to hold her painting together and to make it easier on the eye. I really enjoyed the art as we toured though the gallery mainly because the style that she uses is something that we recently studied in Art History so it was a great experience to be able to see a newer artist exemplifying a style that has been around for a long time.
