On November 19th I attended the Suicide Prevention workshop, which consisted of a student made 30 minute documentary about the dangers of depression and suicide. This was a very powerful workshop in my opinion because it did not simply give us facts about suicide but showed us a video that contained the thoughts and feelings of people who had attempted suicide and people who were close to someone who had taken their own life. This especially stuck with me because I’ve been in a situation where a friend of mine was depressed and considering suicide and I was asked to not tell anyone, but this workshop showed me that it is not a betrayal of trust to go and seek out professional help for your friends or yourself. Overall I feel that this was an important workshop for me to attend particularly because as a college student it’s important to realize that not everything will go as you plan but there are always people there to help and support you.
