On Tuesday, December 1st, 2009, I visited the Mercedes Matters gallery and went on the tour. The tour started out by having everybody go into the first room with the tour guide, and then look at the various paintings. The first room was on her early years. The second room was on her middle years. The third room was on her later years. Each room had very similar paintings, as this woman seemed to paint the same thing over and over in different ways. The tour guide told us very basic information and then encouraged us to analyze the paintings. The explanations the students gave were very simple and the tour guide seemed to agree with all of them. After the brief, twenty minute tour, our group was moved out of the gallery as a new one entered. My primary thought when all of this was done was “Is that it?” With just a few small walls of artwork, and nothing outstanding or particularly noteworthy, this exhibit is best classified as boring and completely uninteresting. My fellow students seemed to agree.
