Career Exploration

On November 10, 2009, I went to the Internship and Goal Setting workshop provided by the STARR Career Development Center. When I got the room, there was a long line for signing in. After signing in to the workshop, I took a seat and waited 15 minutes for the program to begin. The kind lady introduced herself and her agenda. Right then I realized this workshop was going to be extremely valuable. She told us that if we were looking for jobs and internships during college, we were at the right school. There was a career fair around the time of this workshop, so she let us know how valuable it would be for us to go to this fair and give our name out to companies like Ernst &Young and Deloitte. This career fair was targeted at underclassmen. If it wasn’t for this workshop, I would not have know about this career fair that was going to go on, as well as the number of companies that recruit from Baruch. The presenter let us know that she was the person we would want to meet if we were interested in getting an internship or job while at Baruch. I was very surprised with how many opportunities Baruch offers to become employed, with all the different companies that come to this school. This workshop was the most valuable for me, in my opinion, because my goal is to have a good job after college, and this workshop introduced me with many steps to achieve this goal.
