Freshmen Reception 2009

During the Freshman Reception on Thursday, September 17 many freshmen attended this event. Many people were intrigued by the knowledge that was supposed to be given in that workshop. However, there was an ASTOUNDING amount of freshmen present for this evernt. The hosts of this workshop apologized to us later during the event, stating that on average, for the past four years, only 200 students attended this workshop. This year, 2000 freshmen attended this workshop, receiving a folder with important documents about graduation requirements and the various degrees we can achieve. So many people attended that the hosts told us that if we did not receive one, they would be handed out during our FRO class next time. This workshop did tell us very important information but sadly, it did not take me out of my “comfort” zone, except for the amount of personal space to move around during the actual workshop. Regardless, I learned alot about our school’s Curriculum and requirements for our majors and important documents needed for our college life. This workshop will be very helpful in the future and I hope the other workshops will be the same.

Freshmen Reception

I attended my first freshman seminar enrichment workshop as a Baruch freshman. The Freshman Reception was held on Thursday, September 17th 2009 in the Center for Academic Advisement. Surprisingly the hallways were packed with fellow freshmen who were also there to attend the workshop. I was excited to meet my peers and learn more about what I have to do as a college student. The staff of Baruch College offered refreshments and snacks as we pushed and shoved our way into the room. I also received a folder that contained various documents that were helpful to me. I was informed all the core curriculum requirements that I have to fulfill in order to graduate and the Center for Academic Advisement is open for all students who have any questions about their academic needs. I exited my way towards the elevators relieved that I completed my first workshop which was really helpful and worth it.

Freshmen Reception

The freshmen reception was quite an interesting event. Although it was overcrowded and there were long waits, it was still  satisfying. At the door I received a folder from the Academic Advisement center, which I think is very informative and helpful because it contains information about the different majors and minors offered at Baruch. It also outlines the requirements for acceptance in to the three different schools. The folder also contains a paper that helps you compute your GPA which I found highly useful because I was confused about the 4.0 GPA scale and what their values were equivalent to. At the reception there were advisers who told us that they are here to assist students with any program planning or issues regarding their academic path. I was relieved to have discovered that there are people out there who can assist me if I ever have any questions or issues regarding my major. The reception was also great because there were cookies and refreshments served, which was a great way to end the day.

Workshop#1

This Thursday, I attended my first workshop at the Center for Academic Advisement. When I arrived, the entire hallway was swarmed with freshman on line for the workshop. This got me really excited to see what the workshop was about. I learned about all the classes each student needs to take in order to graduate. I also learned that if I need any help that I should go to that office and they will assist me. I also really enjoyed the cookies and refreshments while getting to mingle with other freshman. This Tuesday, we had a freshman seminar class with our mentors. We learned about how important public speaking is and how much people utilize it in every aspect of business. I definately learned more about the subject and will use it a lot during my lifetime. I would like to thank my mentors for teaching me!

Freshmen Reception 2009

The Center for Academic Advisement hosted an important workshop for freshmen on Thursday, September 17th from 12:30PM- 2:00PM in the Newman Vertical Campus on the 5th Floor. I was among the many freshmen who decided to attend this useful workshop that gave us an opportunity to meet our peers and have our questions answered by our academic advisors. Since this was my first workshop at Baruch College, I was anxious to see what they offered students. In this workshop, I was greeted by a friendly staff that offered refreshments and a folder that contained various documents listing faculty and contact information of the Center for Academic Advisement, majors and minors at Baruch College, core curriculum requirements and a chart that helps convert your grade point average. I gained a lot of knowledge from attending this workshop and it answered numerous questions I had in mind. The members at the Center for Academic Advisement made students feel comfortable and assured that they will offer as much help and support to the students at Baruch. The advisors informed students that there will be future advisement sessions for freshmen. I will recommend it to my classmates and friends at Baruch because this workshop provided us with vital information. This workshop met all my expectations and I look forward to meeting with my advisors again.

Freshman Reception 09

After another day of classes at Baruch College, I ended off my day attending the Freshman Reception 2009 workshop. This took place in the Academic Advisement office, The office that will help me with any questions or concerns i have as a freshman in Baruch. As I cross more days off the calendar I slowly but surely get more and more comfortable in Baruch. However there is still more things for me to know. After walking in to this workshop i was handed a folder outlining my requirements for Baruch. I was happy to see some refreshments being served, But what made the workshop successful was the staff and “advisement” I was given. Knowing that all i have to do is walk to the fifth floor if I ever need help really comforts me and keeps me going. I look forward to attending more workshops in the time to come, and I hope each one gets better and better.

Freshman Reception 2009

Today I can say i finally feel at home in Baruch College after attending Freshman Reception 2009.  After receiving a folder with information about my next for years of college, it cleared up some questions that have been bothering me.  I now know what classes i need to take to get into the Zicklin School of Business, and i now know how many credits i need to get.  When walking in I was welcomed by a table of light refreshments and I never felt more at home.  I was told a countless number of times that all i have to do is come to this office with ANY problems and I will be sure to be satisfied.  Despite this program only getting about 200 kids in the years past I was told this was a record crowd.  I am satisfied with this workshop that i attended this afternoon and I will be sure to visit this office with any inquiries in the future.

Library tour

On 09/08/09 tuesday, our peer mentor Jane took us to the Baruch library. Jane told us where we could activate our cards so we could borrow books and textbooks. We also learned that we could borrow calculators for a whole semester from the library as well. Jane also showed us the copy center and where all the computers were. We learned that the busiest times of the library is during exam times, and that even getting a seat will be impossible. We could even get a separate room to study with another individual. I thought the tour was informative because that week I had to go back to the library to activate my card as well as print out some information and I knew exactly where to go. I thought Jane did a good job trying to make the library tour fun. Since we’ll all be using the library all the time I thought the tour was really useful and interesting.

Baruch Library Tour

The tour of the library was great. I think that the library at Baruch is one of the finest I’ve ever been to. In fact, I am in the library as I’m writing this! There are so many resources available at the library and Jane told us all about them. You can borrow books, calculators and laptops. You can even take out laptops for 3 days! There are little cubbys to work, tables, and rows of computers to sit at and do work. There is a quiet room where you can go to read, or sleep at Jane said. There’s bathrooms and waster fountains. Theres a self checkout station to take out books quickly on your own. There are floors and floors of plenty of books to take out. The tour showed me all the wonderful things that Baruch has to offer and I look forward to exploring more of the huge library that Baruch has.

Baruch Library

On Tuesday my class met up for our Freshman Seminar class. Our mentor, Jane Odartey, took us on a tour of the Baruch Library. When I first walked in I was amazed at how large and clean the library was, it was much nicer than any library I’ve seen. Everything was organized, and taken care of. The library was very active, filled with many students either studying or relaxing in between their classes. While showing us around, Jane taught us how to take out books from the library, which one could do by themselves through the use of a machine. She also told us that we could rent laptops and calculators from the library, as well as print anything we need. I am thankful that Jane took us on this tour because I can imagine the amount of time that I will spend in the library throughout the next four years at Baruch.
