Two weeks have already passed since the first day of college. Starting from my first day in college, I knew that the experience was going to be totally different from high school. The surroundings seemed so foreign to me at first with new faces, new professors and most importantly a new environment. I felt uneasy at first about this whole new experience but thankfully for our peer mentor, Jane who’s always so friendly and bubbly she made the experience easier for me. This past Tuesday she took us to a tour of the library and my first reaction was that of awe. I was amazed at the sheer size of it and the amount of books the library had. The library always seemed to be bustling with activity. Jane was really helpful during the process telling us how to self check out books which is really useful so that we don’t have to wait on line. Also, she told us how to check out textbooks and calculators which is really useful in case we needed them a certain day. She also showed us how to take out laptops which certainly appealed to me. I was impressed by the library overall.
Baruch Library Tour
The first week of college has been an interesting experience to say the least. I have met a great number of people with whom I have something in common, whether it be a class we share or a common interest like basketball. What most surprised me about college was the freedom that is not there throughout high school. During the first week we got ourselves acclimated to the Vertical Campus where most of our classes are, and on Tuesday our peer mentor, Jane Odartey, showed us the William and Anita Newman library. When I first went to the library during the first week I was amazed because I had never seen a library that big, and it almost seemed alive because there are always people there. Jane showed us around the library, from the reading area to the checkout desk, and the area where we can borrow laptops and calculators. She also showed us how to take out books and reserve rooms to study in. This tour of the library was incredibly helpful and I can see myself spending a lot of my free time there.
Tour of Baruch Library
Starting in Baruch was an experience not so new to me. Meeting new people, new faces and a different environment was something very familiar. I was uneasy about the entire experience but the FRO class made it easier. Same along with the events that were made for that class. Last Tuesday, our peer mentor, Jane Odartey, took us on a short trip to the William Anita library across the street from the main building that we usually entered. It wasn’t our first time there but we did not know all the facts about the library. Jane graciously told us of all the possible actions to be done in the library, from the reading zone, to accessing computers and even borrowing books. She gave us hints on certain areas of the library using her experiences as a student herself. The experince was fun and there was no uneasiness at all.
Baruch Library Tour
The first week of being in Baruch College allowed me to have a better sense in traveling around the Vertical Campus building, but during this week’s class of freshmen seminar, Jane Odartey, our mentor for the class, showed us a different building that was different from all the other campus. Jane helped us navigate around a building that students go to and spend most of their time there and may even sleep there during midterms and finals, which is the William and Anita Newman library. This library isn’t like any other library that I had ever been too. The library was filled with numerous students. Books, computer, comfortable chairs and laptops seem to be endless. During the tour, Jane told us about different parts and floors of the library and the uses of it. She showed us where the quietest room with dim lighting is, so students are able to take a nap. There are also private rooms allowed for two or more people to study. The library is fully equipped; we are able to borrow books, calculators and even laptops. Jane also taught us how to do a self-check out, instead of waiting on the long line. I am glad I had this tour; it was really helpful and useful. I can see myself spending a lot of time there just like the rest of Baruch’s students.
Baruch Library
Theres only one word that can describe my first days at Baruch College, “different.” After being in High School for the past four years I have adapted to that atmosphere, making the college experience totally different and unheard off. Luckily, I have a class made for “Freshman.” In the Freshman Seminar class Im given a mentor to help out when I’m confused or when I don”t fully understand why something is being done that way. In this weeks class my mentor Jane Odartey had us meet in the “Newman Library” to take a tour. When I first saw the library I was in shock with how beautiful the building is. I was impressed with how organized it is and what really excited me was how if I need help, theres always someone there to answer your question. from taking the “Library tour” I was introduced to many helpful things, such as renting computers, calculators and even rooms. This will defiantly help me out while I continue my studies here at Baruch College.
William and Anita Newman Library
In our last session of freshman seminar, I was very happy to conclude my day taking a tour of the William and Anita Newman Library. The day after I urgently had to check out a book and that’s when I realized this session worked to my advantage. I remember Jane giving us a step by step tutorial of how to check out a book and where to return it and I am proud to say i gained a lot of knowledge from this session. We then found out we can rent rooms to “study” in and I can tell you i will for sure use this once final time comes around. After comparing this library to my high school library this doesn’t even compare. The William and Anita Newman Library is full of computers, book, and many other resources to help me get my work done quickly and efficiently. Overall this tour was a success and i definitely gained a lot of knowledge that i will use for the next few years here at Baruch College.

Baruch Library at a glance…
The first week of classes is over. Fortunately, everything seems to be going smoothly, and I am starting to be able to adjust myself to waking up at 5;30 a.m on Tuesdays and Thrusdays. I am also beginning to familiarize myself with the surroundings of Baruch College. However, there’s this one place I haven’t visited, but have heard of so many people talked about, the William and Anita Newman Library. For today’s freshman seminar class, Jane Odartey, our peer mentor, took us on a tour to the library and explained to us the different facilities provided for Baruch students. As we enter the library as a class, we already see the library crowded with people, taking advantage of the resources provided for them. I see people waiting on-line to check out books, surfing through the internet, and, of course, closely reading. Jane introduced to us a fast and convenient way to self-checkout books, which I think will be very useful in the future, when I do now want to wait on the long line just to borrow books. I am also pleased to find out that there are calculators and textbooks available to the students, which will be very desirable when I am in need of those resources. Overall, I find the tour to the library quite useful, and anticipating on spending some time there throughout the course of the semester.
