The Great College Predicament…Passing Time

student_-_bored

Being first semester freshman’s, often you find yourself stuck in blocks with professors that you don’t like, classes that your not interested in, and worst of all, incredibly long breaks. Most students spend their entire semester trying to find something to do to pass the time. It can be quite frustrating to get through long breaks especially if your spending half your day to attend one class. Many students often feel tempted to leave, go home, work etc. rather than waiting several hours for one class.

I’ve been racking my brain to figure out a list of activities that many of you can do during your long breaks. Some suggestions are more conventional since all of you are students, while others are more recreational activities.

If you have any ideas or suggestions please post them here. I am curious to find out what many of you have been doing during your long breaks as well.  Have you just been hanging out, studying, catching up with school work?

(1) Attend an enrichment workshop.  Schedule for workshops located on the blog.

(2) Go to tutoring for classes that you are having trouble with.  SACC is open six days a week.  Monday-Thursday from 9-8, Friday 9-3, and Saturday 10-4.  SACC is located on the Vertical Campus Room B2-116.

(3) Get in shape by working out at the school Fitness Center.  Opened seven days a week.  Monday-Thursday from 7-9, Friday 7-8, and Saturday 7-8.  Or you may want to play a particular sport which you can use the school Gym for.  The schedule changes every week.  You may check it on the Baruch Athletics page.

(4) There’s never enough time to catch up on school work.  Aside from the library there are Study Lounges located throughout the campus.  In the 23rd street building there is a student study lounge in Room 1311.  The Library has a designated Reading Room as well as four floors of desks for students.  If you prefer to be in a private room you may get a key from the Circulation Desk located on the second floor.  However, you must have four people per room.

(5) For those of you interested in doing something more lively there is a Game Room located on the 3rd Floor of the Vertical Campus in the club wing.  It is always buzzing with activity and many of you may find it to be a great release from stressful classes.

(6) The school recreation center also has a pool and racquet ball courts that are open for all students to use.  There are three racquet ball courts which all have different schedules.  However, all three are open from 7-8 from Monday-Wednesdays.  The pool is also on a rotating schedule this fall, however, it is mostly open from 7:30/8 in the morning to 9/10 at night.  You may go to the Baruch Athletics page for schedules for both.
