I attended this workshop along with some friends and Rafia was there also. I personally found it to be very informative and I think its something i will look into more. The presenter explained what to look for in an internship, what types there were and also included a booklet with lots of info. It has help with cover letter, resume and also thank you letter formats. The presenter also did a small tour of the career center’s website and how to use it which i also found useful. Overall this was a good workshop with valuable information.
Interships and Goal Setting
What’s on your Infinite Playlist?
Portable music devices such as Ipods, Mp3’s, and even cell phones are like must-haves for many of us music junkies who like to listen to our favorite tunes throughout the day. The type of music a person likes can definitely give some insight into an individuals interests and personality. Some people like one particular genre of music such as rock, rap, hip-hop, etc. Others only like particular artists or albums that they like to listen to. Since we are quite a diverse class, I’m sure that we have a variety of musical genres and artists that all of you are interested in. What is your taste in music, or better yet what artists/genres/albums would make your playlist?
Mid-Semester Review
Well guys, we have officially hit the half way mark for the semester. With only seven weeks remaining in crossing the finish line for your first semester as college freshman, how has your college experience been thus far? Is it everything you expected it to be or not at all what you were hoping for? I know many of you expressed frustrations you had with certain classes. How have you been dealing with that and your professors? Since first semester of college you are restricted to your freshman block, what are you hoping to change and/or looking forward to for next semester?
Everything You Need To Know To Pass Math
On October 15 ,2009, I attended a worshop on passing math. The person doing the workshop remonded us about going to the sacc to get help of we needed and about making appointments. She gave us advice on taking notes like dividing the page in half and write neat and legible so when you look back it easy to review and study tips like practicing doing the problems as much as you can until you confident and cram for the test the night before just get a good night sleep. She also gave good advice for getting over test anxiety like think positive about you do better on the test than thinking negative. Overall It was an informative worshop.
The Great College Predicament…Passing Time
Being first semester freshman’s, often you find yourself stuck in blocks with professors that you don’t like, classes that your not interested in, and worst of all, incredibly long breaks. Most students spend their entire semester trying to find something to do to pass the time. It can be quite frustrating to get through long breaks especially if your spending half your day to attend one class. Many students often feel tempted to leave, go home, work etc. rather than waiting several hours for one class.
I’ve been racking my brain to figure out a list of activities that many of you can do during your long breaks. Some suggestions are more conventional since all of you are students, while others are more recreational activities.
If you have any ideas or suggestions please post them here. I am curious to find out what many of you have been doing during your long breaks as well. Have you just been hanging out, studying, catching up with school work?
(1) Attend an enrichment workshop. Schedule for workshops located on the blog.
(2) Go to tutoring for classes that you are having trouble with. SACC is open six days a week. Monday-Thursday from 9-8, Friday 9-3, and Saturday 10-4. SACC is located on the Vertical Campus Room B2-116.
(3) Get in shape by working out at the school Fitness Center. Opened seven days a week. Monday-Thursday from 7-9, Friday 7-8, and Saturday 7-8. Or you may want to play a particular sport which you can use the school Gym for. The schedule changes every week. You may check it on the Baruch Athletics page.
(4) There’s never enough time to catch up on school work. Aside from the library there are Study Lounges located throughout the campus. In the 23rd street building there is a student study lounge in Room 1311. The Library has a designated Reading Room as well as four floors of desks for students. If you prefer to be in a private room you may get a key from the Circulation Desk located on the second floor. However, you must have four people per room.
(5) For those of you interested in doing something more lively there is a Game Room located on the 3rd Floor of the Vertical Campus in the club wing. It is always buzzing with activity and many of you may find it to be a great release from stressful classes.
(6) The school recreation center also has a pool and racquet ball courts that are open for all students to use. There are three racquet ball courts which all have different schedules. However, all three are open from 7-8 from Monday-Wednesdays. The pool is also on a rotating schedule this fall, however, it is mostly open from 7:30/8 in the morning to 9/10 at night. You may go to the Baruch Athletics page for schedules for both.
Managing Relationships
On October 8th, I went to a personal enrichment workshop on managing relationships in college. The woman speaking had us discuss how the different relationships in our lives have changed since we began college. We talked about friendships, romantic relationships and family. She explained the importance of networking and had us get up, walk around and meet 5 new people. Most people agreed that they don’t spend as much time at home any more and the best way to avoid conflicts with your family is to communicate with them and let them know what you’re doing.
Club Fair + Fresman Reception
On september 17 I went to the freshman reception. I waited on line for about 20 minutes before getting “in”. Upon entering all I saw was a woman signing the people’s passports and her yelling that folders would be avalable in other room at a later time. I tried but failed to find the food in the overcrowded room. The woman signing left the room with a pack of students including me following her. I Got her signature yet learned nothing about majors or minors that i needed to know about.
The Club fair was a different story. The line was not to long and we got some small pocket mta maps which were cool. I saw a few clubs that interested me including some with my major and my ethnicity. Next semester I plan to join clubs since this semester was all about getting used to school. The line for signatures was small. I forgot to blog about these two events but i plan to keep it up since I like everybody else want to get a P.(passing)

Much Ado About……Food????
Being college students we all often find ourselves being much more cautious of how we spend our money. Commuting costs, school books, clothes/shoes, hanging out with friends can all end up putting a whole in your pocket. So it’s no surprise that most college students try to spend the least amount of money on food. Paying for breakfast, lunch, early dinners, and snacks every week can really accumulate into a lot which may be difficult to afford.
Below I’ve listed several venues for you all that are close to campus and cost efficient. If you know of any additional places not listed below, by all means, leave a comment to add it.

Managing Relationships in College
On October 8, 2009 from 12:30 to 2:30, I went to the Managing Relationships in College workshop. I found it very helpful because I seem to spend a lot less time with my family, friends, and sweetheart. It is very hard to find time for anything actually because of all the studying I need to do for classes. Overall, the lady spoke about all the things I was interested in and had a few activities ready for us. She asked us to meet five people and explained how important it is to know people because they might help us to get the jobs we want. Also, she talked about how to adjust to changes in relationships as we enter college life. This workshop was interesting and helped me to meet people.
