My Baruch Experience

My Baruch experience so far has been very busy and tiring. I have a long commute since I come from Long Island so that adds to the workload. My english class is pretty tough since we get daily quizzes and have recieved our first paper already. The teacher told us how this is not like high school and she won’t “spoon feed” us. She gave us the assignment and said we wil never discuss it again in class. Studying for the daily quizzes i sa pain as well since she does not grade us on if we read the pages assigned, but rather on if we understood the meaning of the content. My calculus class is also quite demanding because we are assigned about 40 questions after every class. The teacher does not tell us what to do either, she just expects us to read off the syllabus. In High School, we were told every day what was due tomorrow but at Baruch, we are expected to know ourselves. It is also quite confusing doing the homework because if you don’t know how to do something, you have to use your own time to ask the teacher for help and cannot use class time. Another difference between Baruch and High School is that the attandence policy seems quite strict. For freshman seminar, if you miss 2 classes then you fail which seems pretty tough. In High School, you simply needed a parent’s note to excuse you from class. At Baruch, that doesn’t cut it. Time management seems like the biggest issue at Baruch. It is hard to stay on top of all the reading and have time for fun so you have to really organize your schedule well. One thing I do really like about my schedule is the fact that there are no friday classes. This allows me to enjoy my fridays and have a full day off for relaxation. I hoep in the future, I can successfully adjust to baruch culture, but as of now, it is hard since I am coming straight out of High School.

    Hi,
I think it is just a matter of getting used to it, and soon all these issues will turn into normal things. After doing it several time, you will find the right way for you to organize yourself and then you will be fine.
    Goodluck!
