On Thursay, October 15th, I attended the Diversity Career Programs Summit in Room 7-150. This summit brought representatives from three internships firms, In Roads, MLT, and SEO. The main purpose of these three firms are to develop and place talented minority youth in business and industry. Their mission is to prepare students for fast track entry level jobs. This really caught my eye because they are giving away many opportunities for minorities to be the best that they can be. And what caught my eye even more was how before i even walked in through the door, one of the interns had already pulled me in. I asked him what I will get out of this summit, and he told me, “what if I told you you can make make over $10,000 as an intern? Would that bring you in to this room?”. Of course I had to say yes, and I came in with high expectations. This program was very helpful as all the representatives showed us powerpoint representations and even DVDs of their firm. I learned a lot from them, and although their intern opportunites are mainly for sophmores and juniors, that still doesn’t stop me from starting early. The interns told us to start as soon as possible and to prepare for their interviews as well. After getting their emails, and websites, I will be sure to visit and find out more about these opportunities.
