I visited the metropolitan museum to complete an assignment for my art history class. I expected my trip to the museum to be very interesting. I was very eager to go and I was also eager to learn something new. Unfortunately I found my visit to the museum to be very boring. Mostly because I have already learned about most of the cultures and pieces that were exhibited in the museum. Two pieces in modern art were the only style of art that I was not aware of. The modern art that I am referring to is called Op Art. There was a specific piece named Blaze 1 painted on hardboard by Bridget Riley Op Art is a style of Art that came about around the late 1900’s. Optical Art gives an illusion of movement through an artwork.
As I walked through the museum I viewed Egyptian artwork, painting from the early renaissance, sculptures from Europe, modern artwork and etc.
I am so familiar with the different forms of artwork because many of my history teachers have taught me about the early renaissance paintings also I took an art class in junior high where I became educated about many artist and different styles of art. One person who I learned about was Andy Warhol and his particular style of art, where he would have make copies of a particular object or person in prints of different colors in aligned squared boxes as the entire painting. Overall I can say that I appreciated my experience at the museum and the assignment given because otherwise I would not be able to be reminded of the many different activities offered for free or as little as a donation as a penny. =) I will be back to visit again.
