Two weeks has passed, and i got an unforgetable experience in Baruch. At the very beginning, I was so worried about my college life. It was the first time I lacked confidence. Fortunately, everything was not as bad as I thought. Indeed, everything is going well. New encironment, new friends, new challenges, and new start. New was the first impression that Baruch gave me. In the following days, I will be a really college student and deal with the new challenges. Baruch, I keep walking with you!
my first week in Baruch
College is much different from high school. Professors don’t care if you are attending the school or not. They don’t care if you are doing the homework assignment or not. Once they give out the syllabus, you are all on your own. You are responsible for your readings, homeworks and exams. You need to read your textbooks the day before the classes and come to the classes with preparation. Getting used to the blackboard is still bothering me. When I was in high school, teachers always reminded me the due day for homeworks. However, this is no longer happen in college. Every day, I need to check my blackboard to make sure I don’t miss any assignments and important announcements. So far, my Baruch experience is a little hard, but I believe I will adjust it soon. I am expecting my new school life in Baruch.
My Baruch Experience
My Baruch experience so far has been very busy and tiring. I have a long commute since I come from Long Island so that adds to the workload. My english class is pretty tough since we get daily quizzes and have recieved our first paper already. The teacher told us how this is not like high school and she won’t “spoon feed” us. She gave us the assignment and said we wil never discuss it again in class. Studying for the daily quizzes i sa pain as well since she does not grade us on if we read the pages assigned, but rather on if we understood the meaning of the content. My calculus class is also quite demanding because we are assigned about 40 questions after every class. The teacher does not tell us what to do either, she just expects us to read off the syllabus. In High School, we were told every day what was due tomorrow but at Baruch, we are expected to know ourselves. It is also quite confusing doing the homework because if you don’t know how to do something, you have to use your own time to ask the teacher for help and cannot use class time. Another difference between Baruch and High School is that the attandence policy seems quite strict. For freshman seminar, if you miss 2 classes then you fail which seems pretty tough. In High School, you simply needed a parent’s note to excuse you from class. At Baruch, that doesn’t cut it. Time management seems like the biggest issue at Baruch. It is hard to stay on top of all the reading and have time for fun so you have to really organize your schedule well. One thing I do really like about my schedule is the fact that there are no friday classes. This allows me to enjoy my fridays and have a full day off for relaxation. I hoep in the future, I can successfully adjust to baruch culture, but as of now, it is hard since I am coming straight out of High School.
first week at Baruch
At first class of every course, most of the professors were go over syllabus for their class, but the professor for calculus class was the special. Unlike others, she handouted out the syllabus for us to read, and entered the class right away. My friends and I were surprised by the difference. However, I recovered right away, and started to pay close attention to the lesson. It had been almost a year that I didn’t take math class. Therefore, I was so exciting when I brought home the textbook, and began to work on those assigned problems right away. That night, I finished most of the problems with great enjoyment. Comper to math class, english used to be on my dislike list during my high school year. Now, I found out that english class could be really useful, and first formal class made my felt like I learned a lot. Those tense issues had been making me crazy, and the class helped me to clearify the difference between pass perfect and pass perfect progressive. I’m look up to the following days, weeks and years in the college
Blog assignment
Long time ago, someone told me that college is much harder than high school. After the first week of school,I believe that.College is so different from high school. In some classes, the professors like to give lectures more than give notes,so you have to pay attention to what they say.At home,we have to do a lot of readings, because the professors’ lectures cover a lot of materials from the book.In high school, teachers usually write down the homework on the board, but in college, the professors like to put the assignments on the website.I have to check the site every night to make sure I get everything done on time. In college ,we have more freedom than in high school. We get to know a lot of people from different places.I think I will adjust to college life soon.
My Baruch experience
June 2009 is when my experience at Baruch College began. At that time, along with a counselor from my former school, I spoke to the head coach of the basketball team into letting me practice with the team as a preparation for try-outs, as I knew I was going to be a freshman here the following fall. That is why I started coming to the school, three days a week during the whole summer and I really enjoyed it. At that same time I constantly went to the financial Aid office in hopes of securing myself a job on campus. Unfortunately, I am still searching for employment. Then came the two orientation sessions that were opportunities for me to meet my peers and socialize with them, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Finally classes started and that was the big piece of the cake. E-sims, Blackboard, the syllabi ; all these new things flying at me and that I have to get used to. All of which, is nothing compared to the burden of having to purchase textbooks at inflated prices. Nevertheless my classes are interesting and the professors are inspirational. As an overall evaluation, my Baruch experience has been awesome so far, and I really feel comfortable in this environment where I am sure I will accomplish a lot.
Assignment 1
Blog Assignment #1 EHUANG
My Baruch experience so far has been very busy. Getting used to the change from going to high school to college is not very easy at all. Each teacher expects me to do my homework and studies before class, so I know what they are talking about. Not only that, I also have to get your my books and also need to find the time to read the book. There is a job that I am working at that I want to keep. However, with all these work, it is very hard to keep track over my school life. In the end, my Baruch experience is going to tired me out sooner than I expect it.
Blog Assignment #1
My baruch experience has been somewhat confusing; adjusting to a new system of figuring things out on your own is really tiring. It’s a lot different from high school because the teachers basically gave you the instructions and you go and get the assignment done, it was as simple as that. I will probably eventually get the hang of it, but for now I am just going to have to make do with the challenges that are presented.

Things we did not get a chance to cover during class:
Attendance Policy – If you miss more than 2 classes, you have to make up the 3rd absence. When you do miss a class, please inform me ahead of time. If you inform me before the class, I will be more understanding. If it’s an emergency, a simple text that you have an emergency will do. If you contact me afterward, I will require proof. The reason for this strict policy is so that we can be fair to everyone in the class. If someone misses 4 classes and doesn’t make it up, but passes the class, it is unfair to everyone else who did come to class. You are allowed to be late 4 times. 2 late marks account as an absence. I will not check your enrichment workshops until the end of the semester, so it is your responsibility to attend the workshops.
Class time: Please refrain from questions that deviate from the class because like today, we will end late. If you have any important questions please ask before the class starts or after.
