Employers complain about communication skills

In our society today, it is indeed that we lack the skill of communication. However we do not lack the skill in communicating due to the advancement of technology. Rather, I believe it is lacking due to the poor educational system as the importance of speech deteriorates in school. We have to come from somewhere from being unable to speak effectively and that is from early childhood. It is in those crucial times, that a child learns to effectively communicate on not only what they need but also in expressing themselves. Often times, lower to middle class families do not have resources or the time to help their children in communication and sometimes the public school system does not help children with speaking at all.

Sure, we may have experiences in public speaking. However it doesn’t signify that we are good at it. Sometimes teachers are satisfied that their students go up there and just present what they present. In class, we learned that communication is one of the most important aspects in having a career in business. Yes, it is true that we need to have a clear voice, use better body language, listen, pay attention and do all of the following. However it is hard doing so without any practice or a foundation from early childhood. As a young adult with anxiety, I believe that those who start late in public speaking need to have practice. To have the courage to get up front in class and do speeches over and over.  By doing so, not only are we able to communicate effectively but also enrich ourselves with the people around us.
