Title of Workshop: Building and Managing Relationships in College
Category of Workshop: Personal Enrichment Workshop
Date/Time of Workshop: 12:30 to 2:30
Today, I attended a workshop on managing relationships in college. The location was in the multipurpose room and up on the podium was a licensed psychologist. The licensed psychologist talked briefly about the changes in relationships that everyone experiences through college. In fact, years 18 to 35 is a crucial period where people are adapting to their environment. She also talked about managing relationships with parents, friends, and everyone in college. She said it was important to go out there to have diverse groups of friends in order to experience the college experience and make connections in employment. In addition, everyone had to go around the room to meet new people.
Reflection:
I feel like the licensed psychologist was very articulate about what she said. It is true that some people are growing and adapting at a faster pace than ever before because I notice that in myself. I notice that my relationship with my parents aren’t the same anymore. I feel like I’m missing that 9 year old, 13 year old, 15 year old, and etc bond or connection with my parents. I don’t have that tight bond wih my parents no more. I think this tight bond fades away as we mature into adulthood physically and mentally. I actually miss this bond but I know I have to move on into young adulthood.
