On October 14th, 2009, I attended Professor Fernandez’s Community-Global Awareness workshop, which was about the dynamic role of race, power and ethnicity that play within the time period of Obama. There were profound debates regarding race in our society and how it affected us in general. Two great debate points were raised which were “all men are created equal” and “race is what distinguish or makes an individual unique and distinct.” This workshop was not just about positive effects of multi-race minority gaining power; however, Professor Fernandez lectured about the negative effects as well. It was grotesque how racism existed within minorities as well as within a society as whole. Also the view on immigration was very controversial; it had multi-view on the topic. It was serving as labor pool as well as blame for the current recession and poor health-care systems as well as on the hot issues that are addressed during the presidential elections to the candidates. Overall, this workshop was a very critical and analytical one toward the post-modern society of United States. Personally, I like history classes, so this workshop was very interesting and resourceful.
