I attended the library database workshop on October 15th. It was a thirty minute workshop on how to use databases in the newman library site to help us find articles, editorials, books, and etc. Like all workshops, this one was overcrowded; many students sat on the floor while the others stood up for the whole presentation. This workshop was really helpful because now I know how to use the database to help me with my research papers, homeworks, and whatnot. The librarian showed us that not only text documents and PDFs could be found in the database, but also pictures, videos, and other relevant pieces that can help us. The best thing is the citing tool where whenever we need to put the database on our bibliography, we can just click this thing and its going to give us the whole citing thing available in a variety of forms from MLA – ULC. The librarian also showed us when to use quotations in the database search engines, when and where to use or, and, and not. They also showed us how else the library site can be helpful – from the library hours, books available in Baruch and other CUNY systems, and the floor maps.
