Employers Complain about Communication Skills

The article raises a valid point about communication. Communication is a crucial skill when applying for a job. No matter how good you are at your profession, if you can’t articulate it to others, you will never be able to apply your skills in the workforce. Unfortunately for some speaking in public is not their strong point, however if they don’t work on it, they will never be able to get good at it. In class we were talking about what makes a good speaker. We wrote down our own ideas in general and shared them with the class. In the end it came down to making eye contact, hand gestures, speaking clearly, and overall confidence.

Technology may be seen as one of the main faults in why people today aren’t good speakers. Devices such as cellphones, twitter, and instant messaging increases the amount of communicating we do, however the type of communication isn’t the same. When someone talks on the cellphone poor grammar is used, you may not being given them your full attention and no eye contact is involved. Instant messaging, twitter and texting is probably the worst. Now you lose talking completely and are forced to type out words and spelling them incorrectly. Though the amount of communication is increased through these devices the degree of communication has fallen.
