In class, we discussed how good communication is crucial to get a job. We discussed how body language and eye contact is very important. It shows the audience that you are knowledgeable in what you are saying. People will listen to you if you can communicate well. It will help you succeed in the workforce. The article explains to us, that many students have very bad communication skills, and it is because of technology. People lose social skills, and begin talking in slang, because of all the blackberry and instant messaging use. If you have bad communication skills, you wouldn’t even be able to get through a job interview. The problem is very prevalent among the younger crowd, because of the technology that they use. They become shy.
When we saw the videos of the people presenting lectures, it was clear that the girl had much better communication skills than the man. She actually kept me semi- interested in what she was saying. The man showed that he was not confident, and I did not even continue to listen to what he said. If they were at a job interview, the woman would have a much higher chance of getting the job than he would. Overall, we see that communication is vital in the workforce.
