assignment:communications

It is evident that the younger generation is more technologically advanced than the older generation.  However, although we (the younger generation) know how to use the most recent cell phones as well as the internet to chat with our friends, our generation has an enormous problem with communicating our thoughts.  Many of us do not grasp the concept of formulating ideas to express our opinions and views clearly and intelligently.  This article emphasizes the importance of communication and specifically stresses how crucial articulation is in all aspects of life, especially when being interviewed for a job.  It is imperative that we possess the communicative competence of conducting business.  When speaking to an audience, we must be aware of what type of people we are speaking to- highly educated, young, old, etc. By doing this, we can adjust our vocabulary in order for the audience to understand what we are talking about; there is no point in making a speech or talking if no one understands what you are saying.  In addition, depending on the situation, making a joke or two can ease the tension.  For example, this tip will not be useful when being interviewed by a potential boss.  Body language should be present when speaking, because as displayed in the video, the student who used body language was more interesting than the student who did not.  Lastly, when going for an interview one must look the interviewer in the eye when shaking his/her hand, because it shows that he is confident; displaying confidence makes a good first impression.
