The Managing Relationships workshop was very useful, because we discussed all types of relationships, such as family relationships, romantic relationships, and business relationships. There was a PowerPoint slide that had bullets briefly explaining each type of relationship. For family relationships, we formed groups of three and discussed how we balance college and family time. The two other members of my group and I agreed that it was very difficult to do so, mainly because there is more homework in college than there was in high school. For romantic relationships, we discussed the hardships of long distance relationships and ways to make this type of relationship easier to deal with, such as taking turns to visit each other’s college campus. We also discussed friendships in college and the importance of networking. For this discussion, we were asked to walk around the room and make five friends. After that, we discussed networking and its importance. We were encouraged to make a LinkedIn account for networking purposes. This workshop reminded me that it’s never too early to start networking, and that now is the time to meet new people. In addition, although academics is a big part of college, socializing is important as well, because those who I meet now may be the ones who will assist in the future by helping me obtain a job or an internship.
