On Wednesday, October 14, I attended a discussion titled “The Changing Nature of Race, Power, and Ethnicity in the Era of Obama and Sotomayor. My history teacher suggested to my class that we go to this discussion. After a long day at school, I’ll admit i was not looking foward to going to this disussion. The small room on the fourteenth floor was packed and hot. There were four panalists who were each given a question about either race or ethnicity. The first panalist prepared a slideshow which depicted who will be the minority group in the year 2050. This clearly showed how the world is changing with respect to ethnicity. The other three panalists responded to different types of questions and told personal stories about their race and how it affects their life. At the end the audience asked questions and gave their views of how race affects their everyday life.
Unfortunetely, after such a long day I found it hard to concentrate on the presentations given to us during the discussion. However, I thought some of the statistics were interesting and it definitely met my expectations.
