Title of Workshop: Library Database
Category of Workshop: Academic Enrichment
Date/Time: October 15, 2009/12:30-1:15
On October 15, 2009, I went to the library database that was held at the Newman Library. Upon arrival, it was crowded because everyone was there to complete their workshop. In this workshop, a librarian, talked about how to use databases in doing our research paper. He said that the language matters in searching in databases such as Lexis Academic. He told us that if we wanted professional scholarly reviews, we had to type in complex words or professional deemed words. For example, anabolic steroids instead of juice. However if we wanted to find a current magazine article, we would put in a everyday language or slang such as juice or steroids. Basically, he told us language matters in choosing which articles.
In the end, I found this workshop to be a repeat of what I learned in English class. A lady came to our English class actually days before this workshop and talked about almost the same thing. She showed us how to work the databases to our favor like the librarian did in this workshop.
