The article describes a weakness in many graduating students. In this society, communication skills is crucial to finding a job, especially in you are majoring in Business. As it is said in the article, “They are so used to using a BlackBerry, instant messaging their friends, that a lot of them don’t understand how to create a formal company memo to their boss or a group of executives,”. As we see around us everywhere, people are on the phone texting or instant messaging with alternative ways to type words faster to send to their friends. These shortcuts won’t work in the firm. Not all bosses may understand “Meet with CEO of Citibank l8er.” As we come into the modern day, texting is spreading around but we must keep in mind that text language may not be appropriate in the work area.
As we discussed in class, we need to learn how to communicate with others. Not only in the formal way, but the respectful way. Having eye contact, speaking clearly, pausing between sentences are some ways to communicate with other people especially with a large group of people. I personally believe that we must learn these techniques so that we are prepared for interviews, presentations and much more in the near future.
